  • Have made my first fabric noticeboard for DD (with her help - she's 5!) and I have to say we are really pleased with. Made it from chipboard, wadding, fabric, ribbon and some buttons and little bows. All in pink. We didn't put the ribbon symetrically (sp!) but DD is very pleased with it.

Still have some chipboard left and some wadding and fabric, so going to make a couple more for presents. Just have to get some more ribbon.

All this came about because I bought the wrong chipboard for the shower room floor ...:rotfl:

I'm doing a couple of homemade gifts - some name friezes, I think, and I'm working on a massive cross-stitch project for a friend for Christmas next year. I want to turn it into a bag for her. :)

Never thought I'd consider my gifts as being worth giving when they're just homemade bits and bobs, but I'll see how it goes. :)

  • FootballWidow, actually the padded noticeboard is something I'd already planned to make for my two daughters, and have already got some of what I need for it (actually I bought very cheap cork noticeboards from Ikea as the base). Glad to hear yours was successful.

Christmascraaazy, I think yours is one of the most original and brilliant gifts I've come across. It also, conveniently, gave me a good idea for what to do with the polystyrene chips I got in a Lush present I was given myself in the summer and which smell wonderful - stupidly I hadn't even thought of using them to pack something I was giving someone else!

  • Hiya,
I have a question - I was going to make some chilli jam as gifts for christmas, but the jars I've got say "not suitable for jams" on them, but the site says they ARE suitable for chutneys - I was just wondering, what's the difference? Is there any way of making them suitable for jams, like a wax disc or something?
    Thanks

  • This isn't 'homemade' in the crafty sense, but my student daughter put a lot of music on my MP3 player for me. I considered this a great present!

My own homemade presents went down well (I gave other presents as well to the recipients): fabric noticeboards for both my daughters, scarves I knitted for them, clothespeg fridge magnets in their stockings(found the instructions online), fudge for them and a friend, cake for said friend.

  • I love giving homemade gifts :D I've made sock monkeys, cakes and this year gave cold processed soaps that I made months ago ( they need to cure for a few weeks) as gifts. I gift wrapped the soaps and put them in a basket with some bath accessories;)

Thankyou :D The black soap is coloured with charcoal. Its called an "in the pot swirl". You basically mix some charcoal powder with some oil then pour it into the pot of soap and give it a swirl round. It's pot luck really as to how the swirl turns out;)

  • PS Also made my elder daughter's boyfriend a 'chocolate pizza', with which he was thrilled to bits. It was a giant chocolate biscuit with chocolate buttercream icing, grated white chocolate, glace cherries, Maltesers and slices of Mars Bar. Managed to get hold of a new (unused obviously!) pizza box to present it in and made a label on the computer. :)

I have just come out of hospital after being taken ill just over a week ago, and my family have been amazing!

They have helped take care of my home, my children and me! I want to thank each and every one of them - my question is this -

I am worried about money, having just started out on a DMP I am on a very tight budget however I would like them all to know how appreciative I am - I would like some suggestions!

I am thinking maybe a homemade gift / cakes / cards etc or maybe having some kind of tea party and inviting them all along?

I am hoping you money saving experts will be able to come up with some good / cheap ideas !

    Thanks xx
