The car is a Citroen Saxo , registered November 1998

I bought a code from an online service but it didnt work (8584) .I m getting the £7 back but they claim the radio must have been changed / modified - but as I am only the 2 nd owner seems unlikely?.

8584 is the correct code for the Serial Number quoted.(or at least the one it left the factory with ).

The problem will usually be one of the following

1...Wrong code due to wrong Serial Number quoted (misread perhaps?)..so check it again

2...Wrong code entry procedure ..Make sure you are entering the code correctly and getting the correct display at each stage.

3...Radio is semi-locked due to previous wrong codes being entered...Solution is to leave SWITCHED ON ...UNDISTURBED for as long as it takes to reset itself.(usually a couple of hours)

If none of the above is the answer , then it is most likely that your radio has been recoded to a completely different number.

....But I bet the answer will be 1 , 2 or 3 above ..It usually is !

Wow....what a result (finding this thread)!

I haven't been able to use the radio for 6 months after leaving the interior light on all night.

If anyone can help with a 6000 CD code....ser. no: M522598....then I would certainly be very grateful.
