Car Radio Unlocking

Hi, just been given my Grandad's rover 400 (1997), he was forever taking the battery out and the lack of radio wasn't a bother for him but it's a nightmare for me, any help would be appreciated!

Thanks molerat. I've remembered i had the original manual with instructions and guarantees in the car. I've checked it and there was at the end one stick with the same number you gave me, 9418 for my 4500 rds eon code M 041333, but it doesn't work, I've tried for 5 times with 9418 and always the same answer: wait 30 min. I don't want to block it totally with the 10 attempts you have. Has anyone other options?

How did you get the M serial originally ? Press 6&2 together, the M serial will appear on the screen.

The code 9418 and the serial M 041333 were in the official stick at the end of the owner's manual.
