Loopyllama as I actually read your posting! Yes your code for M991696 is the expected 4498.

So the next step , could the Audio guide be from a different car?
Best way would ( as always) remove radio from dashboard and check for sticker on the rear of the radio. If it still gives you M991696, you have a problem .
Buy a cheap radio one off ebay and request a number from here.
