You'll have been approved if you've got the email. The limits on amex products are now very tight and unless you have a spotless credit history expect a starting limit of less than 2k. Limits are reviewable every 18 months (and the trick to getting the increase is to spend spend spend and repay repay repay) no harm in Ringing customer Services (01273576576) and saying that you think you've been approved and want to know the limit - they will track you down from name and address....

You should expect the card within a week-10 days of the account being opened (which should be same day as email sent)

I have just applied for a BA Amex and got the message that they are unable to give a decision just now and they will be in contact in 10 days. Anyone know if this is good or bad?

Neither. Just means your score was marginal or the computer can't make an automated decision based on the information provided so the application will be reviewed by an underwriter to make a decision.

    Could go either way :o

    Good luck!
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Neither. Its the bog standard response! The only time I have seen an immediate approval was when a platinum charge card holder applied for a credit card to go alongside. The card holder in question spent approx quarter of a million a year and had been with amex for YEARS (since the 80s)

I would have to disagree here; would not say that's a bog standard response.
When i applied last Friday i got the decision straight back that my application was successfull and that i should receive my card in 10 working days; it arrived today which was super quick; 4 working days and that includes a Bank Holiday!!

Well, well done for you! I process probabally about 50/60 applications a week and straight acceptance is certainly not the norm!

So do most of them refer then or do some decline straight away?
