You`re paying double the odds, try Poundland or The Works.

Not really, nearest Poundland is 12 miles away, nearest Lidl's is 6.;)

No idea who or what " The Works " is/are.

I`ve heard that Tom Tom map updates are very expensive.
Do all Sat-Navs charge for updates?

Might be worth bearing in mind when buying.

I paid £19.80 for 12 month UK updates from TomTom in Feb of this year ( online) once you register your unit with them, they email you good offers) they offered me 18 months for the same price just after I had paid the 12 mth subscription.

On a customer service level, I bought an expensibe unit ( with a large internal hard disc/ Uk/ Europe & USA maps preinstalled) it cost £300 in 2007. After about 6 months I had loads of problems with it, ie not switching on, then not switching of and always taking an age to lock onto a satellite. I sent it back to them , they kept it 2 weeks and returned it as "no Fault found".

3 years later it is still the same, now, if I need to use it, I switch it on at least 30-40 mins before I leave the house to be sure of having it working.

I will buy a cheaper, basic unit (probably a Garmin) and just purchase whatever maps etc I need, as the need arises. Anyone know what garmin update pricea are like ?
  • Ive had a tomtom for a couple of years now and no problems whatsoever, also had garmin and navman and found the routing not very good plus the garmin wasnt as upto date as the others.Looked at navigon but found it very difficult to use compared to the others. The garmin had the best battery life by far though.
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.

Only problem I've had with a tomtom is the traffic receiver thing stopping working.

I have experience of both the tomtom one and the Garmin nuvi 205.

If someone could marry up the best features of both these models into one,it would be great

    As it is,

The tom tom has the best mapping software, best re-routing skills,is faster at computing, has better search routines

The Garmin..well the maps can be a bit dodgy at times i.e it sends you up one road, turns you round and takes you back the way you came! Good bit about the garmin is that most of the time,it displays the speed limit you should be doing and bleeps warnings a lot.

Bear in mind, my ?TT is the earlier TT1 so latest one is likely to be better still.

    Overall, tom tom is best
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Tomtom can do this, at least the newer ones anyway. I would not rely on those too much though they can be wrong, as always do look for the speed limit signs.
