Don't forget to line your gifts up in the right order...Is Kelly helping you with this?...sorry to not be formal...perhaps you could thank "your wife" for helping you
Guests love reference to "wife/husband" in a speech
The missus will be handing the gifts out with me, I think, so hopefully that's not going to be an issue.0 -
Oh its a lovely speech, and I nearly got a bit teary, which considering I don't know you or your bride is odd lol!!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

I think it's lovely too. I think it'll definately last more than 3 mins but with you giving out the gifts too then it will break it up, so it's not you talking and talking and talking! Make sure your speech is somewhere safe, if you put it in your pocket then you'll put your sweaty hands on it and make the ink run, if you get more nervous then you'll just read word for word straight from the paper/card and risk getting peoples names wrong.
I think it'll go down really well, just don't let your bestman know the ending of your speech in case he finds a way round it, all the best for Friday!!0 -
LOL I spoke to the best man last night, and he sounds like he will go fairly easy on me, that said he could be lulling me into a false sense of security
I think I will do it on a piece of paper with 2 columns, 1st column with full wording incase I forget what my notes mean and 2nd column summerizing what I have to say. That way all I have to do is glance at the summary and if I get stuck I have the full text.
Will print 2 copies of the speech and keep them in seperate places0 -
Wow youre so organised and professional! I'm totally impressed. :T
Mr Barb 2B says he is going with a very short 'reading of the page job' as he is totally terrifed! He is very resevrved and its the one thing that puts the fear of God into him - public speaking.
Oh, closely followed by 'public dancing' for the first dance. Best of luck!!0 -
great speech chap and along the lines of what mine's gonna be like.
good luck for the big day0 -
Made an amendment or two as I realised I hadn't thanked guests for gifts!Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, on behalf of my new wife and I, welcome to you all. I know some of you have come a long way, some have taken the day off work and we really appreciate it, so thanks for coming and thankyou for your generous gifts
Someone once said that a good speech has both a good beginning and a good ending. A great speech however keeps both of these very close together…with that in mind I will try to keep this as short as possible.
Now as is custom, there will be a few toasts during my speech, so please make sure you have a drink and don’t drink it all at the first toast…mentioning no names, Mum.
Events like today don’t just happen. We have been planning this wedding for some time now. Well, I say "we", Kelly did most of the work, one of the best things about being a man is that weddings seem to organise themselves. I can’t count the number of times I have been asked “how is the planning going”, only to blankly respond “yeah great, all in hand” secretly clueless. So to Kelly; my lovely new wife and everyone else who has helped organise and make today special I would like to say a huge thank you.
Absent family & friends
Unfortunately, it’s not been possible to have everyone we love here with us today, but we know they’re here with us in spirit & they’re not only in our thoughts today, but more importantly they’re with us in our hearts.
So, with them in mind, would you please all stand, raise your glasses, & join me in a toast to absent family & friends.
How we got together
This is the part where I am supposed to tell you about how me and Kelly got together.
I am not going to go on forever about it, so tough, there is a point in the speech dedicated for heckling and there is a complaints box near the door, suffice to say that we were best friends before and we always will be.
We have been together now for 3 years, and it’s completely flown by. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together as man and wife and know it will be just as enjoyable.
I proposed on xmas day morning, down on one knee, kelly was in floods of tears and kids were stood by wondering what I done to upset mummy this time. I can't thank her enough for accepting my proposal, although I do think that a large part of her was just glad to be rid of her old surname.
Kel, you are an amazing mum and have done so well in your life to get to be the successful independent woman you are today, I love you in so many ways and for so many reasons, you know me and understand me like no one else ever could, you make me laugh so hard and smile so often, you have a way of bringing out the very best in me, but mostly because you’re my very best friend and my soul mate. I love you with all my heart.
So can you all raise your glasses to Kelly Owen my beautiful new wife
Parents
Mine
I would also like to thank my Mum & Dad for their continued love, support and friendship. Thank you for raising me the way you did and for pointing me in the right direction. I am sure you will all agree with me that they did a fantastic job!
Kelly’s
I have to thank Kelly’s mum Karen for bringing up such a beautiful, intelligent & caring daughter. Kelly is a lovely person.
Karen you have made me feel like family from day one, and we would like to thank you for your continuing support,
As a token of our appreciation would Karen & My mum, please accept these flowers….
Kel’s Aunts for food
I have a couple more thanks to say, but I realise I have probably been going on a bit now so will try to keep it short.
We have some flowers here for Kelly’s aunts who very kindly prepared all of the food you will be enjoying today and saved us a fortune
Bridesmaids
I also can’t do a speech without thanking the bridesmaids, Sam, Danielle, Tracey, Amber, Mia, Abigail & Molly, you all look amazing and we have a little something for you to say thank you.
Pageboy
I can’t forget our little boy either, who looks fantastic, Oliver we have a little something for you too.
Best Man
So, that’s enough from me, it now gives me very great pleasure to hand over to my best man –– he’s a guy that I’ve known for quite a while and I can honestly say that his support and advice over the years has been truly invaluable
Many people don’t know that Danny lives in a parallel universe which causes him to invent fanciful stories. He really does believe these stories to be true and I thank you for humouring him during his speech.0 -
can you swap the first and second paragraph around, i think itll put you at ease to have that giggle first and itll flow with thanking people better?
in the first paragraph 'i welcome you all' sounds better than i welcome to you all'I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
How about;Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, on behalf of my new wife and I, welcome to you all.
Someone once said that a good speech has both a good beginning and a good ending. A great speech however keeps both of these very close together…with that in mind I will try to keep this as short as possible.
I know some of you have come a long way, some have taken the day off work and we really appreciate it, so thanks for coming and thankyou for your generous gifts.
Actually reading that back, that's definitely right, flows really well (IMO)0 -
Good luck for tomorrow!0
