Just drafting my speech and would LOVE comments on it;
Just drafting my speech and would LOVE comments on it;
Intro
Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, on behalf of my Beautiful new wife and I, welcome to you all.
Someone once said that a good speech has both a good beginning and a good ending. A great speech however keeps both of these very close together…with that in mind I will try to keep this as short as possible.
Now as is custom, there will be a few toasts during my speech, so please make sure you have a drink and don’t drink it all at the first toast…mentioning no names, Mum.
Events like today don’t just happen. We have been planning this wedding for some time now. Well, I say "we", Kelly did most of the work, one of the best things about being a man is that weddings seem to organise themselves. I can’t count the number of times I have been asked “how is the planning going”, only to blankly respond “yeah great, all in hand” secretly clueless. So to Kelly; my lovely new wife and everyone else who has helped organise today I would like to say a huge thank you.
Absent family & friends
Unfortunately, it’s not been possible to have everyone we love here with us today, but we know they’re here with us in spirit & they’re not only in our thoughts today, but more importantly they’re with us in our hearts.
So, with them in mind, would you please all stand, raise your glasses, & join me in a toast to absent family & friends.
Ladies & Gentlemen, “To Absent Family & Friends”
How we got together
This is the part where I am supposed to tell you about how me and Kelly got together.
I am not going to go on forever about it, so tough, there is a point in the speech dedicated for heckling and there is a complaints box near the door, suffice to say that we were best friends before and we always will be.
We have been together now for 3 years, and it’s completely flown by.
I can’t thank her enough for accepting my proposal, although I do think that a large part of her was just glad to be rid of her old surname.
Kel, I love you in so many ways and for so many reasons, you know me and understand me like no one else ever could, you make me laugh so hard and smile so often, you have a way of bringing out the very best in me, but mostly because you’re my very best friend, my soul mate. I love you with all my heart.
So can you all raise your glasses to Kelly Owen my beautiful new wife
Parents
Mine
I would also like to thank my Mum & Dad for their continued love, support and friendship. Thank you for raising me the way you did and for pointing me in the right direction. I am sure you will all agree with me that they did a fantastic job!
Kelly’s
I have to thank Kelly’s mum Karen for bringing up such a beautiful, intelligent & caring daughter. Kelly is a lovely person.
Karen you have made me feel like family from day one, and we would like to thank you for your continuing support,
As a token of our appreciation would Karen & My mum, please accept these flowers….
Kel’s Aunts for food
I have a couple more thanks to say, but I realise I have probably been going on a bit now so will try to keep it short.
We have some flowers here for Kelly’s aunts who very kindly prepared all of our food for us and saved us a fortune
Bridesmaids
I also can’t do a speech without thanking the bridesmaids, Sam, Danielle, Tracey, Amber, Mia, Abigail & Molly, you all look amazing and we have a little something for you to say thank you.
Pageboy
I can’t forget our little boy either, who looks fantastic, Oliver we have a little something for you too.
I think we should have a toast as well, “To Oliver and The Bridesmaids”
Best Man
So, that’s enough from me, it now gives me very great pleasure to hand over to my best man –– he’s a guy that I’ve known for quite a while and I can honestly say that his support and advice over the years has been truly invaluable
Many people don’t know that Danny lives in a parallel universe which causes him to invent fanciful stories. He really does believe these stories to be true and I thank you for humouring him during his speech.

Love it! They will all be chuffed and you are guaranteed to bring a tear to several eyes. Nice cover for the upcoming Best Man's anecdotes too - well done that man!0

I can't see anything wrong with that speech. Covers all the points it should, but not sure if you toast the bridesmaids or is that the job of the Best Man?
Have you timed your speech? How long does it take?0 -
aww, that brought a tear to my eye! I love it!
Am just hoping that my OH's speech is as good!
Well done!0 -
Have you discussed who's thanking who in your speeches with your Best Man?
Normal etiquette is for the Best Man to toast to absent friends not the Groom, so probably best to check that he hasnt got that planned in his speech aswell.
Other than that i think its brilliant! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
I'd have expected you to say 'on behalf of my new wife and myself' or similar. Rather than using her first name the first time she is mentioned.0

Good luck and all the best for Friday....dont worry your speech will be fine...My husband prepared a beautiful speech prior to our wedding..but emotion got the better of him after the first few words"i'd like to thank you all for being here....."..the tears flowed and we both stood up and hugged to the applause of our guests...no one minded...that bit just went with the flow so to speak....no matter how it goes it will be fine...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -

I will have a quick word, not a big deal to whip that part outI'd have expected you to say 'on behalf of my new wife and myself' or similar. Rather than using her first name the first time she is mentioned.
Agreed, will make that changeGood luck and all the best for Friday....dont worry your speech will be fine...My husband prepared a beautiful speech prior to our wedding..but emotion got the better of him after the first few words"i'd like to thank you all for being here....."..the tears flowed and we both stood up and hugged to the applause of our guests...no one minded...that bit just went with the flow so to speak....no matter how it goes it will be fine...
Sure it will all be fine, just polishing it and getting some feedback.0 -
Beautiful speech, I am sure your wife and your guests will love it.
I would agree with what Tamarto said. I was at a few weddings last year and at a number of them the grooms' speeches started with "on behalf of my beautiful wife and I". This got a good cheer from all the guests and the phrase was repeated throughout the speech where appropriate, again to more cheers.
Best of luck on Friday!0 -
awwww thats lovely, well done!I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0
