the order of speeches should run
    father of bride
    your speech
    best man

If you are having a Father of the bride or someone speaking before you, perhaps at the start of your speech you should thank them and perhaps give a reference to your speech being as informative as theirs...this will give you a flow through the speeches in the same way that you make reference to you best man at the end of your speech.

Perhaps you could modify this line to reflect that the food is being enjoyed by the guests today and this should then attract a round of applause....

We have some flowers here for Kelly’s aunts who very kindly prepared all of our food for us and saved us a fortune

    Hope the suggestions help.....
although to be honest you can read and read a speech and you will always find something to change...the basis of your speech is very good and you have obviously put a lot of time and effort into it well done

  • No worries thank for the comments, maybe;

We have some flowers here for Kelly’s aunts who very kindly prepared all of the food you will be enjoying today and saved us a fortune

No father of the bride speech (as the father of the bride won't be there), I will be the first speech.
  • Fab speech !! Had all the ingredients...made me well up....and laugh...what more could you want !

I wish you and your wife to be a wonderful day, and a happy future together..

Ps I will be pointing my H2B in the direction of this thread :D
  • Ok, i'm a grump and have been to too many weddings where grooms have given fairly 'lame duck' speeches.

    Personally, i hate 'speech intros':
Someone once said that a good speech has both a good beginning and a good ending. A great speech however keeps both of these very close together…with that in mind I will try to keep this as short as possible.
    Heard it a million times.

Do you have any ushers? If so, it's good to thank them.

I like this line and think you could expand on it:
We have been together now for 3 years, and it’s completely flown by.
Any fun little stories/amusing anecdotes about those 3 years?
How about how you proposed? Any funny events that have happened to you?

This might be nice to expand upon:
    Absent family & friends
Are they absent because they couldn't make it? Make a joke at their expense!
Are they absent because they died and you all miss them.. maybe mention that if they were close relations

My advice would be to remove the headings, find a tape recorder (or digital equivilent e.g. mobile phone), read it aloud, as you plan to on the day, and see how long it takes, and if you'd word things differently. People's writing style is usually a bit different to how they would speak aloud.

Good luck, apologies for any meanness!

i like the intro, it makes you giggle! i think if you go to the wedding and you were hearing that speech from the groom youd be laughing, if not you are a grump lol
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p

Nah, no users, can't start a speech without and intro!

Maybe, I will have a think.

I read and have been told that it's generally bad manners to speak badly of the absent, whatever the reason.

I wouldn't stand there and read it word for word anyway, appreciate it probably looks like that, just trying to get feedback (and my notes wouldn't mean much :P)

Personally I think I would leave that area to the best man....that way you wont offend/embarrass/upset anyone by revealing too much....
If you wanted to expand on that line of how quickly the time has passed then I would go along the lines of how much you are looking forward to sharing the future together as man and wife
