I suspect that a lot of posters are missing the point (double point?) here.

Martin was admiring the marketing ploy, NOT the double points!

Oh please, you seriously think that Tesco themselves supply the mobile signal?

…As for the 'Tesco Bashers', you are free to shop where you like. Even in the few towns that allegedly have a 'Tescopoly', there are lots of other places to buy your groceries. Stop whinging.
My point (all the way back at #9) was that all supermarkets are into scamming you on prices and you cannot win. Anyone who thinks they are ‘getting something back’ with these loyalty schemes is living in dreamland.

They took it off you in the first place.

I actually find the Tesco Clubcard scheme the most annoying of the reward schemes: with nectar you can just swipe your card in Sainsbury's, Argos or wherever and claim your discount (nice and easy), but with Tesco's you have to remember to dig out annoying paper vouchers and take them with you (without getting them dog-eared in your wallet and/or losing them).

Why on earth can't you just swipe your Clubcard to claim your discount? It'd make life so much easier: every little helps, you know..

(I have a feeling they slyly did this deliberately in order to bank on the fact that a proportion of customers are bound to mislay the vouchers and never cash them in. It just means I have to remember to scoop them all up about once a year and then get a shopping trip for free, when I'd much rather just spend them as I get them.)

So Tesco give you 2 points per £1 spend, but do you still get 100 point=£1 redeemed? i remember when Sainsburies changed theirs to 2 points but it got you no extra on coupons. is just now you have 200points=£1 voucher instead of 100points=£1.

    Anyone checked this?

Asda are always showing their adverts on TV saying their prices are lower than all the other supermarkets. Most people won't notice that they say "branded" products.

Compare prices for the supermarkets "own brands" and you'll see that Asda is not the cheapest.

In this economic crisis, not as many people will be buying all the brand names. There are more and more people that are starting to buy the Supermarkets own brands.

Also, Tesco in my opinion is the best supermarket. They are the only Supermarket with their very own Mobile brand. Tesco Mobile is great, very often you get TRIPLE points as well as TRIPLE credit whenever you top up £15. Thats 45 points everytime you top up, and also £45 mobile credit.

Now if you're like me and don't spend £45 each month on your phone, then this is great because that £45 will last until you've used it all. Meaning you only have to top up every 6-8 weeks! Which is great.

Also, I get very high signal in pubs, clubs and even in Museums. Orange and T-Mobile are rubbish for signal in these kind of places, and they are 2 of the main providers!

It sounds like I'm some sort of advertiser for Tesco haha, I'm not, but Tesco are pretty great. Asda don't offer as much variety as Tesco, and that's why I'm loyal to Tesco, they expand and grow so much quicker than all of the other Supermarkets

Tesco uses o2's network. The triple credit isn't that great, Top up £10 with o2 and you get unlimited texts and 100 anywhere minutes, topup £15 and get 300 minutes instead (simplicity tariff).

Probably works out around the same, Tesco 20p/min 10p/text
  • As an avid Airmiles collector courtesy of Tesco (mainly) I was somewhat confused when the sent a recent notice regarding their decision to issue less airmiles than before. The confusing part is where they still say "It's more rewarding with Tesco" when in fact it has just become less so! Aimiles Ltd had better watch out, it won't be long before the scheme is dropped altogether by Tesco - other supermarkets best get ready to pitch for the account!!

    No.
Precisely, it is the same with the "3 years interest free" etc schemes that DFS and Co promote. The interest has obviously already been costed in to the product.

This is changing next year, I believe Tesco is moving redemptions online and via the card.

Asda also has a mobile brand, ASDA Mobile.

From the Tesco Mobile site http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/payasyougo.aspx?page=4 : "Free credit takes 48 hours to activate and is valid for one month. "

As already said Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network (FYI Asda Mobile uses the Vodafone network).

I do agree that Tesco Mobile is a very good PAYG tariff, but personally I prefer ASDA Mobile, mainly for the very cheap internet data cost (20p/MB as opposed to £4/MB).

Also, is it me or has the Tesco Mobile tariff changed recently - I thought it used to be 10p/min calls and 5p texts, not 20p/min calls and 10p texts to all but your favourite 5 numbers as it is now.

Is it just me who looked at the tesco mobile triple credit and saw triple the costs too. By all means it can figure cheaper for some but it isn't really triple as costs are higher.

As with all tariffs it isn't one size fits all and i am not saying its not always better value, but it seems more marketing than saving to me.

Has anyone noticed that Tesco vouchers are always aimed at what you shop for.? I always bananas, milk, Benecol etc and that is what Tesco give me reward vouchers for.

Double points were great, even though there introduction seemed to coincide with the decrease in VAT. Now we are back to single points we can, effectively, get double points in-store but only spending on certain items. In my case that turned out to be only cat food. Still, they had a good offer on Kit-e-Kat so I had cans everywhere!

But what a fa, scan your card, collect the vouchers, tear out the vouchers, exchange them for other vouchers to get your cat food! It is worse than licking all those twenty-fold Green Shield stamps!
