Washing Up Methods

in Water bills
Just wanted some guidance on how people wash up their dirty dishes etc (don't laugh). Before I was responsible for the water bills etc I would leave the hot tap running and rinse each piece of cuttlery/crockery under the tap fully before placing on the draining board. I can now appreciate how much water this uses and was wondering how others wash up e.g. do you fill the washing up bowl with warm soapy water, use a bowl of non-soapy water etc

I have a plastic bowl in the sink and about 3 inches of hot soapy water. Wash each item one by one and then dry. I don't rinse them at all.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Rinsing in clean water is important; the residual detergent, even in such tiny amounts, can, over time, damage your stomach lining.
Seriously, once you develop those problems, it's a lot more expensive than any water bills.0 -

How can you not rinse, ewww ewww. You can't remove the washing-up liquid just by wiping them dry. Glad to hear it didn't affect you, but it can harm you, please reconsider.
My husband then boyfriend used to do that too when I met him, I was horrified. But I know it's quite common practice in the UK, I don't know why.0 -
I'd still like to know exactly what is in washing up liquid that can harm? Oh and I'm about to do the washing up and I'm NOT going to rinse them :eek:2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Washing up liquid = soap = toxic.
Can't you taste the soap when you drink a glass of water?0 -
Hi
Washing up liquid is not toxic (I suppose everything in the right quantity is toxic, but that aside) - washing up liquid is not classified as toxic at all - especially residues. See Safety Data Sheet for Fairy liquid - look at section 11.0 -
Oh BTW - for interest the SDS link above was from this page
