    Unless they have changed tactics in the last few months AOL actually keeps the email addresses running, which you can access thorough the AOL website.

    That's why I put 'chances are' :), why take the risk?

    BTW my neighbours AOL addy is still active after 12mths with VM cable, but what if they throw the switch without notice?

    I've a personal theory that if the original address, irrespective of isp, was set up under dial-up it will remain active.

    It would go some way to explaining why my Tiscali address still works.
