Broadband question

Options
Hi all,

A bit of a thikky question.

Just changed from unlimited broadband to one with 10gb allowance per month. How is this allowance used? I know you will use it by downloading films / music etc, but does streaming use it up as well, you know, like spotify and youtube etc?

Thanks

all data transfer (uploading and downloading) uses up the allowance, so yes, streaming will use it up

    Quite a thick question ;)

Every byte which goes in and out counts towards your allowance, web browsing, email, filesharing, streaming, you name it...

    Ta,

So is 10gb a rubbish allowance then?

......and what happens when you've reached it?

It depends on what you use it for. In general browsing and quite a bit of iPlayer and C4 on demand I have used 7.15 GB in the last 10 days so 10 GB per month wouldn't suit me.

After you use your limit some people may charge you a flat rate, a cost per GB or force you to move onto a more expensive tariff.

    10Gb flies by..

Stepson creates gaming forums, and used 10Gb in a few days by uploading files to them.

Depending on the ISP, you either get billed a fee for every Gb over the limit, or lots of warning emails.

Why did you change from unlimited?

    Thanks guys,

I changed because I was paying 29.99 per month. Trying to cut costs, so changed over. I'm with aol.

Geez, there are still people who pay more than £20 for Internet? ;)

I'm with BE and pay £17.88 for a real unlimited connection up to 24MBit/s. They also have a Value package for £13.79, also unlimited but "only" 8MBit/s. Still fast enough for most things.

Mine's 16Mbit/s with O2 (same as BE btw), a tenner a month (discounted a bit because I have an O2 phone)

    Mine's £7.50, 8MBit/s, though 40GB per month.

The fact that O² owns BE doesn't mean that it is the same service...;)
