Thanks MrsE. I was hoping to do the same thing with a 3GS model rather than the 3G as the internet is apparently much quicker. I found this from T-mobile which I will be doing for £10 if I find a phone at the right price http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/sim-only/tariffs/

Hmmm, that's a bit misleading. It says Sim-Free, but if you drill down you find it's locked to O2.
