can i ask what you are planning on using the phone for that requires the screen size?
Won't have to put my reading glasses on to see texts:o
Won't have to move it back & forth.
Its a b*tch when someone who has been short sighted all their life starts having trouble reading:mad:
I just find those large screens so comfortable visually.0 -
What about the HTC HD2? Still over £300 though.
If your not willing to shell out so much in 1 go, consider a contract. You pay more in the long run if you only want the phone, but if you are a high user on phone/texts its better value.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

You can get recon iphones on play.com from £210, I think that & a £15 sim only deal from O2 is my answer.
I will ask DH for it for bday & xmas (we are having cheap presents this year because if holiday) & even £210 is stretching it a bit.0 -

I'm not sure that larger screen size necessarily means larger text size. And my understanding is that OS's, like Android for example, don't allow you to change font size - I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong on that.
actually you are wrong on that issue. before i saw your post i was about to say the opposite. android phones allow you to change the font size. my htc desire allows me to change the font size, think it is a native android feature. even the book reader apps allow changing font size, even the web browser allows it and all text is resized for the screen view.
also there is a setting for 'accessibility' on android phones and on suitable phones you can download various apps that utilise this system feature. there are 'text to speech' apps that assist the blind so that text is read out etc. i havent tried this feature as i dont need it and since it is a system feature once the extra bits are downloaded apparaently one cant uninstall them, but they convert all text to speech to assist visually impaired people.
the text resizing feature might interest the OP. although i am sure they wont need the 'text to speech' feature for everything as i am sure they can manage without that!
although they may be interested in the 'voice actions for android' thread started recently by me on this mse forum. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2661585 and also https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2504833 but the voice search is now available on the android market and no need to download from the external site.
and also the vlingo app (that used to be a discounted price earlier of 10£ but now available for free since google launched voice actions for android and hence decimating vlingos pricing strategy) might be useful for having text messages read out to you instead of reading it. this will be useful while driving.
http://androidandme.com/2010/08/applications/vlingo-sees-writing-on-the-wall-reduces-price-from-10-to-free/
and http://androidandme.com/2010/06/applications/vlingo-for-android-gives-users-full-voice-control-over-their-android-phone-giveaway/
similar apps are available for visual voicemail (i havent tried them) but they convert voicemail to text so that skimming through them is easier if you get loads of voicemails.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

I can read the iphone perfectly.
Its not even that I can't read the text on normal phones.
I just find the large screen phones visually so comfortable.
DH says he will buy me the iphone for my bday - prices may even come down now the 4 is out. I would be happy with a recon 3 (with a warranty).0 -
