What helps you sleep?

Options
I'm having an increasing difficult time sleeping atm & it's driving me mad.

Even 2 one a night Nytol tablets have no effect on me anymore.

I've tried everything I can think of to alleviate the problem to no avail: staying up for 24 hours to make myself extra tired, getting up at a certain time everday to get into a routine, warm baths, milky hot drinks, camomile tea (yuck), lavender spray & oil burners.

It's really frustrating as I swear having a proper sleeping pattern would help with my depression & anxiety.

Do you have problems sleeping & what do you do to help?
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Sex, or if you can't get a man, masturbation.

Have you tried watching cricket on TV?

    I've upped my standards...so up yours! :)
  • I feel really sorry for you BCS. I've also been having trouble getting to sleep again (it seems to happen in cycles with where I can and then can't *rolly eyes* ). I haven't worked out what will work either. I've tried green tea - didn't work. A bath - makes me more awake. It goes on - although I don't use medication of any kind to be honest. I hope you get into a better sleeping patern soon.

    Thanks Doom, you too. :A

I swear I sleep better in the winter when it gets dark early & it's so cold you snuggle up under your duvet.

    Pesky summer. :rotfl:

My mum always says I should put a fishing DVD on as that always makes my dad fall asleep.

I envy you there. When it's cold the pain that goes with my disability gets worse and it keeps me up more. There again pain is my main problem with my lack of sleep as it is now (the heat and the drunks at night are the other problem - there are drunks walking pst the flat right now!).

Just wondering have you tried drinking loads of coffee so you end up crashing? This sounds wird but it has worked for me a few times when I really need to sleep but it takes quite a while and a lot of coffee! Unfortunaly it's not working the moment :(.

No, I always thought coffee would stop me sleeping so avoid it like the plague. :rotfl:

    Very interesting concept.

I might as well give it a go as i've got nothing to lose. :A

  • Usually, I am completely unable to control my excessive sleeping, having fairly extreme hypersomnia; but this morning I was woken by a mixture of heat, some piercing continual screeching noise i thought was tinitus but was coming from outside, and the extreme thunder storm that happened to be about 10 miles away but was still very loud here.

Now I can't get back to sleep :(

It has to happen on the most important day that I neeeeeeed to be as alert as possible this entire month. Oh well.

I'll admit it does sound odd but it does seem to work when I've been up for absolutely ages in one go (say 24hrs+ which is not unheard of for me). I think it just burns the body out and as such the body refuses to stay awake.

I'm not as strange as my partner thankfully. Coffee makes him tired but he does love his coffee in the morning all the same :rotfl:. He drinks one right before bed and he's out basically as soon as the mug goes down on he floor . He is autistic so his brain works differently with stimulants etc coffee = sleep, hot chocolate = awake (think of it as antidepressants not working on you due to your brain wired differently!).
