IB & CA are overlapping benefits. However, you have an "underlying entitlement" to CA.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Hi where and how do we get £80 then £50 is that a week cos i phoned IS they say not entitled so since 1st may i've struggled and borrowed but can't nomore to help pay bills any advice to right road would be gratefully received thanks margyOK, the govt says that as a couple you need to live on £130 per week. You currently receive £168. Your eligible interest amount would be £80 per week, which would raise your eligible amount to £210, and therefore after thirteen week you could be paid £50 towards your mortgage interest. However, in October the applicable interest rate is dropping considerably, and the amount towards your interest will fall accordingly.
All figures are very approximate, I've got brain fog at the mo so can't do numbers!
It would also be worth looking at claiming DLA for your husband, and if he is to be off work for a long time, claiming Carers Allowance.0 -
Not help with your mortgage but perhaps you should claim Council Tax benefit, worth contacting your local council, if you aren't already in receipt.
Good luckI currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

You can only get Carer's Allowance for hubby if he receives middle or high rate DLA (Care). So he needs to apply for DLA and be awarded middle or high rate DLA care before any claim to Carer's Allowance from you will be successful. But if any Carer's Allowance claim you make is successful they won't pay it to you because it overlaps with your Incapacity Benefit and you can't receive Carer's and Incapacity at the same time. So instead they award "underlying Carer's Allowance". And being awarded underlying Carer's Allowance will let you get the Carer Premium extra on Income Support.
But all that hinges on him applying for DLA and being awarded middle/high rate DLA Care.
Right now, because your friend, not him, gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you that means you won't qualify for the Carer Premium element of Income Support, not just now anyway (see above)
So here's how I work it out your Income Support claim as of this week.
Personal Allowance £102.75
+ Disability Premium £39.85
+Mortgage Interest £47.57 pw (£67,400 @ 3.67%)(this might be more if they pay towards home improvements)
Applicable Amount = £190.17
less
Incapacity Benefit - £97.40
SSP - £70.62
Balance = Income Support payable of £22.15 from the week in which you qualify for help with your mortgage, assuming that week is from October 2010 onwards.
In addition to that, you'll have your DLA, your Child Tax Credit and your Child Benefit.
You said you got a letter from Income Support saying you weren't entitled. Did that letter mention a mortgage ? Have you completed a form to claim help with your mortgage called an MI12 ? You complete the first parts of the form yourself then send it on to the bank/building society ... can you remember filling that out ? If not, Income Support haven't even looked at your mortgage yet and you'll need to chase them up about that.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
i didnt think if your friend got Carers allowance for you, you would be able to get it for your husband, that would make you well enough for your friend not to be claiming for you....0

Nope, that's not right. Sick/disabled people can claim Carer's Allowance for other folk, it's quite common to see disabled couples claiming Carer's Allowance for each other.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -

Yeah, the claims advisor takes very general information about your mortgage.
But that isn't the mortgage claim in itself. When you make a claim to Income Support, they work out your "mortgage qualifying date". That's generally 13 wks after you claim Income Support. 4 weeks before the mortgage qualifying date they should send you a form called an MI12. It's got a few pages, you fill out the first part with your name, address, the name of your mortgage lender, account number .... then you send it to the bank/building society. They fill out the rest of the form and they send it back to the Dept Work & Pensions.
Can you remember filling out an MI12 form ? I don't think you have and that's why you're getting nowhere with Income Support right now, they haven't even looked at the mortgage.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0
