You can only get help with mortgage interest if you're on IBJSA, IS, PC or income based ESA.

If neither or you are working you will have to inform tax credits so they can stop your WTC. And you may find yourself with an overpayment too
  • hi we have never had WTC only CTC i get IB my husband gets SSP from his employer so are we eligible for mortgage help and if so who do we contact about getting it

No. IB isn't an income based benefit.

This is not necessarily correct. The OP *could* have an underlying entitlement to IS (depending on how high the mortgage is), and therefore be entitled. However the mix of benefit entitlements means the DWP may well get confused, so it would be worth getting CAB to deal with the claim.

OP, how much is your outstanding mortgage? The DWP will usually only pay towards the original amount, unless any additional borrowing is for essential maintenance of the home.
    Gone ... or have I?

OK, the govt says that as a couple you need to live on £130 per week. You currently receive £168. Your eligible interest amount would be £80 per week, which would raise your eligible amount to £210, and therefore after thirteen week you could be paid £50 towards your mortgage interest. However, in October the applicable interest rate is dropping considerably, and the amount towards your interest will fall accordingly.

All figures are very approximate, I've got brain fog at the mo so can't do numbers!

It would also be worth looking at claiming DLA for your husband, and if he is to be off work for a long time, claiming Carers Allowance.
