Ive been planning on getting my 2 year old one of these since I read about them on this forum. I showed him one in the shop the other day and his reaction was to push it away and shout out a big ...NOOOOOOO WAYYYYY
Only thing he was interested in was a little plastic Rocket the frog from the Fimbles for 25p0 -

Maybe it will. But I don't see it myself. I could be wrong, but here are my reasons:
1.) The children's channels, and regular channels are being bombarded with Toy adverts. Not one has shown Elmo. No advertising = no awareness = no demand.
2.) The Christmas toy catalogues I have seen, Boots, Woolies, Argos, the like nave no pictures of Elmo. Yet pull page spreads of Dr Who, Bratz and many others.
3.) Elmo is competing with well known toys which are already in demand. Disney Princess, My Little Pony and the British creations like the BBC toys, Bob the Builder and Thomas. All of these very strongly established.
4.) Toys which are big in the US are not always big over here like the massively popular (but unheard of in the UK) American Girl range. It too has been selling out in US stores and trading for good money on eBay.
5.) Show floor space for Elmo has been fairly limited compared to other toys mentioned. Dr Who, etc. Unless you can see a working demo of Elmo, most people will just pass it by. I have yet to see one. Again, no advertising, no demand.
6.) There is a large group of people, lots who have posted in this thread, who are just waiting to flood eBay with their Elmos. RIGHT NOW there are 443 Elmos TMX on eBay. 10 more added to those mentioned earlier. How many more will arrive on Monday with the 10p listing day?
7.) £35 for a toy is pretty expensive when you consider the target audience. And one who would not be screaming "I WANT ONE!!!" unlike the 7 yo boy who wants the difficult to get Dr Who Cyberman helmet!
I could be wrong of course. But I would speculate on many problems selling on eBay soon.
For example, Someone has 10 Elmo's to shift. Christmas is getting closer, so puts the ten on this MONDAY on eBay for the maximum 10 day listing. By the Nov 23rd they are all sold. By the 24th 5 are paid for by paypal. While the rest, other methods. Then you get a late cheque or two. And/or an American who changes their mind. Whatever the reason, you have to re-list. So you are cutting it fine to getting payment for any re-listing and the last postage date for Christmas.
Other problems you will have is rival Elmo sellers who generate fake bids. There will be tonnes of non-payers where people bid too much then change their minds or find it cheaper elsewhere.
I'm using last years XBOX 360 on eBay as a loose guide. However for that 'toy' there WAS heavy demand. But a lot of people ended up with 360's unsold over Christmas due to fake bid rivals and mind changers. At least after Christmas, they were able to sell them off and still make some money. I just don't see any real "demand" for Elmo, now. But there will be NONE at all after Christmas.0 -
Isnt it time this thread is closed! Im fed up of seeing it in the Quick! Grabbit while you can section. Its not about a grabbit anymore, its about people that have bought them and trying to keep this thread in view so they can make money on a product that has a lol factor of about 30 seconds before its just horribly annoying.
Please :money: its not what this fantastic forum is all about!Hardcore moneysaver0 -
I agree - no Grabbit left here. Can we go to "It's Gone..." and carry on there (along with the Keane USB thing)? Can I help?0

But its not GONE. Elmo's are everywhere!! Stacked 50ft high in Hamleys!
Just wait until Monday evening on eBay! I predict 550, any higher? :rotfl:0 -

I fully agree with Soprano's earlier post about it being unlikely that there is any real demand in this country for this toy - and that as Christmas gets closer, there are more likely to be fake/useless bidders on ebay.
Another vote for this thread to be moved, as its clearly not a grabbit it while you can, given the amount of stock around. Oh, and another vote supporting those who feel that this thread is not in the spirit of MSE...0
