I guess we cant change people so we have to change how we deal with them.
We havent had a present for years, neither have the boys we get money in an envelope usually around September so she can get Christmas out of the way........she has no sentiment about Christmas/Birthdays at all.
Dont get me wrong, the money is very useful and she can be generous but I think something inexpensive and thoughtful can mean so much more. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

hi all, been lurking for past few days.
Bit of a mixed week, some ups (in one area of my life) and downs (in another).
Currently struggling to fill the time food used to fill and am realising how little I have going on in my life outside work/sleep! Been trying to decide what to do and keep coming back to doing a course, something that I always like to do. I've got my book keeping course starting next month for 17 weeks but really would like something 'now' as my mind is buzzing and not got a lot of contstructive 'stuff' to fill it!!
Last year I almost signed up for A level psychology but with my teaching qual and everything else it would have been too much. I've been looking at A level Business Studies today (although psychology still really interests me). I could sit the exam as a private candidate at work as we're an AQA exam centre. Expensive though so am going to keep looking at distance learning generally.
Dropped off 3 charity bags of clothes that are too big, I've got another 2 bags to sort - some bits I want to keep because it was the stuff I always wore and want to be able to see how much I've lost when the times comes and I'm closer to target. I don't have much which is worth ebaying, but as time goes on there are a couple of nice bits I might sell rather than give to charity. I emailed the local women's refuge a week ago asking if they wanted clothing but heard nothing back.
Been listening to my favourite CD of the moment this afternoon and am off to see Charlie in a bit."Stay Wonky":D

Wow to MILs all round. glad I don't have one!!
BB, I wanted to study psychology too, I was looking at the OU tho, flip expensive!
Lou - what about a DVD (that you like - then when she gives it back.......) Also does she collect anything???
xxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
BB- could you prep for the Book - keeping course? or perhaps try driving some where new?
what about researching your family tree? That's what I'd do.
Who Am I kidding I like sitting on my bum far too much!

there's not much to prepare for the book keeping course buffy - it's a level 1 so it's right from the beginning. I've seen the tutor outlines from the exam board and it seems pretty straightforward (remind me of that when I'm struggling half way through!!)
Drive?????! Drive??????! :eek::rotfl:
My sister did the family tree a couple of years back - it led her to move to Canada.........I have a bit of a quirk in mine though and I don't want to cause upset by digging to be honest.
Shame we aren't doing A level Business Studies at work as the private providers are sooooooo expensive. Government funding for GCSEs and A levels is pretty much non-existent now so we're only doing maths, english and a couple of languages."Stay Wonky":D

Sound intriguing BB! (family not govt funding)
My local sixth form don't do interesting A levels any more. last time I went to sign up the tutor pointed out, rather rudely I felt, that I could teach the course and so didn't need to do it! (it ran on the same night as work so that put paid to that any way)
I am still sitting here doing sod all. I planted some cuttings before lunch and did some cleaning!
I NEED TO TIDY MY ROOM.
Someone tell to go tidy my room please.
xxxNevertheless she persisted.0
