i use old baby formula tubs for storing things

Made me think, my mum still has my baby formula tins for storing felt tip pens, nails, pens and pencils etc in at home from 24 years ago (I was allergic to cows milk, shes got so many post lying about still!) I must have got my OS ways from her. :D

I have the boxes that mushrooms come in as trays for my pens, pencils, hi-lighters, batteries in my drawers. Some are the big ones some are the small ones. I also use the big mushroom boxes when im feeling really lazy and sit on the floor and peel veg for tea watching TV. peelings go in 1 and the peeled go in the other, stops it going all over the floor and i then tip the peelings into the guineapig cage and cook!

Old jam jars always get re-used for something in the kitchen for storage.

Chipped mugs get a piece of wrapping paper round them to make them look nicer (and disguise the chip!) and get used as pen pots.
  • I use an old pringle tub (one of the mini ones) to store stock cubes in. Also old formula tins to store flour.
  • I've not tried this one yet but you can store logs for your fire in the house in one of those zig-zag wine racks.
  • I have a divan bed - basically a hollow crate with fabric all round, so a total waste of storage space - so I used a stanley knife to cut away the (non-structural) fabric on the side. This opened up the entire underbed area for storage. The valence covers up the hole.

Poor guinea pig .any one for guinea pig stew :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I still have a couple of old Ostermilk tins from when my children were babies over 38 years ago. I just can't throw them out, they hold in one all the rawplugs and tiny screw drivers and in the other it has drill bits, and those vital things that you are always looking for in the cupboard under there stairs ,including a small torch to see whats in the tins
An old chipped coffee mug holds my pens and pencils on my desk.
I still use the old biscuit tin that my husband brought me in hospital nearly forty years ago when I gave birth to my eldest daughter .it holds all my sewing needles and threads .The food was appalling and he used to bring me sandwiches and biscuits in for my supper .In those days women stayed in hospital for ten days after the birth
  • My mum uses the empty washing machine for storing plastic bags!

My mum used to use the empty tumble dryer drum to hide crisps and chocolate etc. from my brother.....even when he found out they carried on being stored there as the dryer never got used to dry clothes...

I use clean jam jars/ coffee jars to store things like lentils and cous cous. And also re-use them for making yummy pickled onions!

i've also seen these used as towel holders in the bathroom with the spare towels rolled up inside them.

Dow Egberts (BOGOF) coffee jar lids with the plastic thing prised off as tea light holders. I've also given these away as gifts. They're easy to tart up with a few beads

    Oh just remembered!
Used to have all my boxes & bags of stuff like freezer bags/foil/baking paper/cling film etc on a set of letter/filing trays that I wasn't using in the office. Got a few strange looks from visiting relatives! They were really handy and kept everything v tidy and easy to get at.

I store shoes in CD boxes. I bought the boxes for £2 each on 3 for 2 and they are black cardboard with metal corners. My size 6's just fit in and they look great stacked up in a corner.

    hi,

you can't remember where you got them from can you, i've been looking for some for this idea, but the ones i've found aren't big enough (i look a right loon lying them down next to my foot to see if there long enough, lol)
