We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

  • I use an old glass sweetie jar to stand my washing up brushes in.

And the usual tubs for all sorts of odds and ends.

    Shoe boxes for photographs.

A cardboard kitchen roll holder to store all my hair bobbles on.

  • I use jam jars with the lids screwed to the underside of a shelf for storing screws, tacks and nails in the shed
  • I have re used some jam jars by having a craft session with my DD painting them with glass paints then just popped tea lights in them - they look great lit up in the garden in the summer.
Jam jar re used to keep buttons in, you know the extra buttons that you get with new clothes.
Wicker basket from a gift set re used to keep sachets in of free smellies in the bathroom
Wicker hamper reused as my DD's keep sake box
Large plastic tub from Asda which had pop corn in re used as a collection point in the kitchen for composter
Old sheets, dressing gown and tea towels re used as rags for cleaning

    think thats the lot :p

  • i can't believe how many brilliant ideas there are here, can't wait to get home tonight and try some, the hair bobbles on the kitchen roll is a big must in our home, they are everywhere!!!!!!!! love the milk bottles for drawer seperaters, the other week when we went to windermere i contemplated buying some from lakeland, but now i'm gonna make my own, and save the money. (can anyone tell me how to do it? or where the thread is, i've searched and can't find it) i've two old cutlery drawer things dd can use to sort her pens out in, and i now have to finish the jam, cos i hate my washing up brushes lying around at the side of the sink. so many simple ideas, how come i never think of them!!!! I'm afraid i may finally become semi organised.

i use old baby formula tubs for storing things in the kitchen- currently have two with dog treats, one with herbal tea bags, and one for all the freebie sachets of coffee/hot choc etc.
if you peel the label off they are just metal underneath, and so look quite nice. i keep thinging i should jazz them up a bit with some scraps of material or something, but never seem to get around to it :p

also use old plastic screw top tubs (ie cod liver oil capsule tubs), with a bit of dry rice/pasta in, as HM rattles for DS :)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I use Ferrer Rocher chocolate trays to store my jewellery. Each wee gold cup holds a pair of earrings, a ring or a necklace. They trays stack up in a drawer too, all nice and tidy.

    loving the chocs too

Oh I forgot about that, I've had one of the plastic bottoms in our bathroom cabinet for years with bits-n-bobs in

I use washing powder boxes, cut at a slant and covered in pretty paper or stickers to store magazines and craft articles.

Ferraro rocher boxes are used for embellishments for cardmaking and scrapbooking, also any other pretty gift boxes that come my way.

I read somewhere (could be on here) that you can store a bedding set inside one of the pillowcases, keeps it all together!

  • We use cutlery trays for various bits and bobs.

We have one for all hairdressing stuff, makeup brushes, small tubes of stuff and other things that women have... you know the type of things.

They're also useful for craft projects. Instead of getting every embellishment and whatever else out, each compartment is good for holding scissors, glue, stickers etc. Keeps everything tidy and stops the craft store from doing its usual exploding trick all over the kitchen! If we're using some watercolour on cards we use the small compartment to put water in as there's very little chance of it getting knocked over.

Well thank goodness I'm not alone!:D
For years on my desk has been a toast rack - brilliant for holding things I don't want to forget like cheques to bank or the vat return.
A posh ceramic toast rack used to stand next to stereo in kitchen and was filled with cd's!
Don't own one proper pen holder have old mugs with pens in scattered around office & house.
I have some old tureens nicely displayed on the side in the hall that contain (nicely hidden under their lids) hair bobbles.
Keep the washing soda in an old milk container (washed it well first!) Washing powder is in a plastic lidded box that came with something (I buy powder in bulk and keep big bag tucked away in attic cupboard).
Kids pens are on their desks in decorated baby milk powder tins and old mugs and also a cutlery drainer thing that was reduced to pennies in Tescos once - perfect for holding slightly bulkier things like glue sticks.
the little glass herb jars I use for rooting cuttings. and they look quite pretty on the window cill.
I used to keep all my jars of hebs and spices in a shoe box in the cupboard until I got a new kitchen.
Heck I didn't realise how much I did this until you got me thinking!
