is it possible to remove the silent mode from a mobile phone?
my son keeps putting his on silent and then doesnt answer it when we ring him. No matter how many times he is told he keeps doing it and it infuriates me

I think the problem is with parent mode not silent mode. I usually don't answer when my mum rings and I'm 32!0

Tell him if he doesnt answer it, i obviously doesnt need a phone so confiscate it for a day......
The stick is mightier than the carrot!
But no, you cant really do what your asking......Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
i even looked into changing all the silent settings to ringing and you cant do it:A R.I.P. Dave "Simmo" Stimpson.....:AA friend, A Gentleman, and a Damn good pool player. You will be missedone in prison, not long enough0

I never ring my children and only answer my mum every other day....
Seriously though children hate their parents ringing them, especially if they are with mates.0 -

make your phone appear unknown? may only work a few times before he catches on though.....Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
I go with the stick approach. The phone was given so we could contact you if needed, if you do not want to be contacted then we remove the phone.
They will hold out for a bit, but you will win in the end.
The other issue is that, ring mode or silent mode. They could just choose not to answer on purpose. Depending on the phone it maybe possible. On Nokias you can usually add/remove/rename profiles, so you can just remove them down to the general ringing profile. There is however nothing stopping them changing the general settings to a silent ring as soon as you leave them for 2 mins with the phone.
Since they can fiddle with the phone, taking it away to teach them rather than crudely force it will work better.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

Or they could do what I do to known cold callers, set the ringtone to silent for that caller and then I dont get bothered if they call.
However the best answer seems to be take the phone away.0 -
Send him a text instead. Especially if you're telling him dinner is ready or it's time to come home for bed. Don't ring just to ask where he is, that would really give his mates teasing fodder.0
