I remember the picture of your cages well and I always wrap my items assuming they are going to be at the bottom of one of those at an awkward angle with several hundred kilos of stuff on top.

Only last week I took my usual things to the main office, the woman in front of me had a very prettily wrapped parcel with fragile stickers on it. Her pastel wrapped item went into the cage and then my sack was emptied out on top, and i'd sold some old war books that weighed well over 2kg each, even the post man winced as they crashed down on her item.

back in the day(insert soft playing hovis music) the MC/DO's had staff and time to separate packages and break them down for safer transit
now with the rise in packet traffic/drop in staffing levels its more a case of get through them ASAP
so stuff needs to be packaged accordingly

If you can't get the correct boxes how about cardboard mailing tubes stuffed with bubble wrap or packing chips.
