  • i did not mean to discourage people like rich from asking queries. i was just curious that he has so many phones (desire, hero, wildfire and atleast one other phone cant remember the name, all acquired in the last 2-3months) going by his queries about setting up these phones over the last 2-3months. maybe he is setting up the phones for his family and is actually asking about family members phones.

i wouldnt have learnt about radio times etc if not for his queries. so even if the queries seem repetitive they still can be useful for users that havent seen the queries before, although regulars might not find it useful. hope this doesnt discourage rich from asking his queries as i myself have found the forum members answers useful regarding some of his queries.

    have a nice day.

Come off it, Bubbles!! I don't have an HTC phone, but I know where the HTC website is! Type "HTC Wildfire user guide" into Google and you'd never believe where it takes you!

If someone has a genuine query about a phone, I don't have a problem with it. If they are just too lazy to even attepmt to look up the answer, I've got no time for them.

Rich has, as you have pointed out, asked the same question about 3 HTC hansets before. Their question has also been about a basic setting of the phone rather than a complex or confusing issue. That's not the action of someone who has searched for a solution and got nowhere.
You are right they are all not my phones as 1 is my wifes and my brother in law and also mine so not all my phones.

So 3 people want to know how to turn on a flashing light on their phones and can't be bothered to look it up in the user guide freely available from the HTC Website. Wonderful.

With using just LED as the search term
    The notification LED shows a:
Solid green light when the phone is connected to the power adapter or a computer and
    the battery is fully charged.
Flashing green light when you have a pending notification.
Solid red light when the battery is being charged.
Flashing red light when the battery level reaches very low.
    Choosing the notification sound
You can choose a default sound for your phone to play whenever there are new notifications.
From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings > Sound & display > Notification sound.
Select your preferred notification sound in the list, and then tap OK.
To use different sounds for different types of notifications, set the notification sounds in the respective applications. For example, to set different sounds for received and sent text messages, open the Messages application, then press MENU and tap Settings.
    Settings
    Sound & display
Choose sounds to use for your phone ringtone and notifications.
Adjust media playback volume. See “Adjusting the volume” in the Getting started chapter.
Turn on or off sound and vibrate features such as Audible touch tones, Haptic feedback, Quiet ring on pickup, and more.
Configure display settings such as automatic

From the manual it doesn't say, but settings then display and sound seems to be the only place if it is possible

i think he is using another sms application, if i remember right 'handcent' and this is causing some known issues with double notifications due to conflict with the stock messaging app that confuses a lot of people, there is a work around which has been mentioned on his other threads before. even on xda / avforums etc there have been loads of posts about this issue. so he is not the only one having issues with the notification lights and sms etc. many people if they have not used smartphones before might find handling smartphones confusing. Dont know why he is having problems with the same / similar feature on all the phones though.

my wife doesnt fiddle with the settings on her desire phone, i just do the minimum settings on her phone and tell her what icons do what, all she is bothered about is basic use of the phone as other stuff doesnt interest her. on my phone the phone looks different everyday as apps, appearance, settings might vary on a daily basis as i try out new stuff that i come across just for the heck of it.
