Sorry if I offended you Donnie, I was going for the point of it sounds like they have just tried to copy data in windows and not used anything more advanced.

The point I was making about attaching it as a secondary herself would be we my be able to guide her from there.

Also what rockin plumber said might be an option, if everything was transferred accross form another PC where is that PC now? even if they have been deleted on that PC there is a good chance of recovering a lot from there.

The laptop isnt that old...I copied pics from an old computer onto my laptop and the old computer is scrapped as it was 8 years old. The laptop is an Acer 5542 with windows 7.

When you say the old computer is scrapped has it actually been disposed of? I don't suppose you removed the hard drive before getting rid of the computer (something I always do in case someone takes it out of the scrap and gets my personal data)? If you had access to the old computer or it's hard drive you could probably retrieve the pictures from it even if the computer no longer worked. I guess it's a long shot but I don't think it's a question that anyone else has asked.

We were not referring to your post, but an earlier post by someone else who felt the need to rub salt in the OP's wound. It's been removed.

In post #10 she recounted that they tried an external drive.
Would like to get some details of what occurred. Though I understand that is may be difficult for the OP to glean the details from other sources.

    okay learn from mistakes .

    Mistake 1 . buying a ACER laptop

Mistake 2 . not backing up your photos .

    1) my £800 ACER laptop's hard rive failed after just 3 weeks . was sent back to ACER and it was never seen again . EVER !! ( long story) without doubt the worst , most shoddily run company i have ever had misfortune to deal with . it came close to threat of legal action to get my money refunded from ACER . ( refund spent ona shinny Apple Netbook pro which i am happily typing on now after 2 years of zero problems and super smooth use )

i would not sent anything back to them , if you hope to get your pictures back .

    2) i really hope you get your pictures back somehow . If you do Back them up . i use Picassa online storage . costs about £10 a year , you can view them online anytime , and your house can burn to the ground and you will still have your photos .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

I'll assume you mean macbook pro ;) hehe.

But yes, a very worth while investment. Unless you self build.. in the world of computers... you get what you pay for.

As well as Picasa, there's also Flickr who do an online photo service, wee bit more expensive than Picasa, but the interface is better :D

But then there's probably other services who are better than Flickr or Picasa...
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

    Hi Marshmallow,

Sorry to hear of your hard drive problem and losing your photos.

I work in IT and live in North East Scotland - can you say what town you live in, and what shop you took it to?

It sounds like the shop tried exactly what I would have tried first but would be interesting to know if it was a shop with a good or bad reputation (although it does sound like they were honest enough with you)

Mashmallow, I was interested in this thread and looked hard to find it again as I have similar problems.

A lot of people have given help here and now the thread barely makes sense. I see you joined and posted only about your problems, just out of good manners could I suggest you explain why you have felt the need to delete everything?

When all these good people see the next person desperate requests they are less likely to bother to sit and help because of what happened here, unless of course you have a good reason.

Yeah, what's that all about? I bet it was all a wind-up.
