hex2 wrote:I still cant get audible to burn a cd. The option simply isnt on the tool bar despite me uninstalling and re-installing. The Nero download fails every time, perhaps because I already own a full version of it. Cant record via Nero direct or WMA as they are copyprotected. Given up, go to cancel it and I also don't have a cancel my subscription option. I did submit my credit card details as I intended to continue with it. I have now had to e-mail them to try and cancel the rotten thing.
I am using Internet Explorer, Windows XP and downloaded the right software. I reset my router in case that was the problem with the failed links.
You may be able to get around this using the Audacity program. Set the dropdown box in the middle to "stereo mix", hit the record button and play the file through audible. You should then have a file you can export to mp3 (if you have the right plug-in). However, as the file is copy protected, this may not be fully legal, so you'd need to look at Audible's t&cs to check.
Also, yes, I'm new, but I've been reading these forums for ages, so I'm quite familiar with the tone and even some names. If the above information should not have been posted, either remove it if you have the power or I will. Like I say, I'm not entirely sure about it.

droopsnout wrote:Sorry, hex2, I can't help you with the CD burning issue, as I have no problem - and I also have a full version of Nero, and also Roxio. When I've downloaded a programme from Audible, Audible Manager opens automatically, and usually (but not always) shows that programme in a list of files in the "download" folder. And in the bottom half of the screen it generally says that my CD burner drive is empty and so no CD can be burned.
As for the cancellation issue, my post here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=3091954&postcount=1025 may help.
Thanks - but that is how I tried to cancel it, but the cancel my subscription button is simply missing. They also took the first months money on the day I signed up for the trial. I e-mailed them early yesterday and they have not replied despite being open on a saturday. I will have to ring them on Monday - not easy with two clingy toddlers.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Why would anyone want to remove an excellent post like that, Lostintheplot? You are offering useful info, not a sarcastic comment.
Edit: Ah, sorry, you mean from the legal point of view. I don't think there's a great problem, there ...
Thank you for posting. I don't know the program you refer to, but it sounds rather like Total Recorder, a free program which allows you to stream normally unrecordable sources like the BBC's "Listen Again" features, and record them as they are streamed to your PC.
A free trial copy of Total Recorder can be downloaded here: http://www.5star-shareware.com/Windows/Music/WAVPlayersandUtilities/total-recorder.html
The full standard version version can be downloaded from its author's website, at a cost of USD17.95, here: http://www.highcriteria.com/
One disadvantage of this kind of recording, though, is that if there is any buffering, or any stopping and starting whilst you're listening, that is recorded, too, although the program does have a facility to remove "dead" time. Recording time is also the same as listening time, so it does tie up your machine for ages!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -

Also, I should have added to my post that the mp3 file you get from it can then be burned through Nero as normal. Voila!0 -
