    "This speculation seems to mainly stem from the fact that we somehow acted illegally in highlighting this issue. I must emphasise that throughout the process we followed the letter of the law, all references and tenancy agreements were drawn up profesionals and the agreement itself was formally agreed by both parties in a legally binding agreement.

    ARGGGGHHHHHH!

    NO SUZY. IT WASN'T You could not have possibly have drawn up a 2 month AST with the help of a professional.

    I feel it is necessary to issue this personal statement in response to press and internet speculation over the last few weeks (three weeks late, imo)
    "It seems to me that it is ridiculous that people are fighting for up to six months, even longer, to get their ho...mes back and have no choice in the matter
    "It's fair that you have to wait until a tenant is two month in arrears but then the time it takes to get through the courts and gain repossession of your home needs to be cut down and this is is a story that we have seen amplified throughout the country from the many letters phone calls and e-mails we have received. This can have a huge effect on peoples finances, their family and their health.
Unfortunately the rental payments ceased and despite repeated attempts at communication or for explanation, dialogue broke down. Several requests for meetings were refused or evaded and at this stage it became necessary to involve the wider community and media. At all times a full right of reply was given and we were finally allowed access to discuss the issue. The simple fact is that at this stage no rent had been paid and the agreement between us had expired. I was unable, like many others, to meet my mortgage obligations and at the same time secure rented accommodation. During this time I was forced to depend on the support of friends and family and I feel very fortunate that we muddled through in difficult circumstances, many in the UK are not so fortunate. I have been genuinely touched by those who have contacted me to share their stories and who have suffered great and protracted hardship in trying to get their property back. We are not in any way anti tenant, having been tenants ourselves, but rather ensuring those that abuse the current system are brought to account. If rent is deliberately withheld the law needs to be balanced. This story has clearly helped bring public attention to a much wider issue.
    "I will not be making any further comments on my own case, I was fortunate to get my home back, many are not so fortunate. I would however like to state that my experience and the genuine feedback I have received has spurred me on to to get the law changed".
    "We are pleased to announce that today we will be launching an online petition aimed at changing the law with the support of Mike Weatherly MP who will be supporting our petition and hopes to present an Early Day Motion to Parliament
    Commenting on the campaign Mike said;
    " What struck me from Suzy's story was how difficult it is for someone to evict a tenant. It's right here should be protection for the tenant but the eviction process is clearly taking too long (especially when you wait a month longer than necessary to issue an S8). I would like to see the system simplified and brought in line with the commercial sector"

    Where did you find this drivel?
  • It's on their Facebook page, as well as a big thanks to Mike Weatherly for his 'support'.
    The aim of ' Rebalancing the law for Landlords and Tenants' is to provide better protection for private landlords who rent out their primary residence. Our key objectives are;

    1) Speed up the eviction process (once the tenant is two months ...in arrears the landlord would need to provide proof that this is the case and after which time the tenant can be removed with a two week eviction notice). At present the court process can take up to seven months. All documentation would be checked and verified prior to initiation of recovery and eviction process bringing the law more into line with current commercial property law

    2) landlords to have better access to their property. This would continue along the lines of the current system requiring written notice but if the tenant refuses to allow admission to have right of access allowed legally with police or bailiff support
    It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
    But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

    I'll bet the link to the Argus story, which has loads of comments saying how silly she was and how the eviction was illegal, together with loads of really useful information on how AST's work, gets pulled off the facebook page within the next half hour.:rotfl:

    yes, that's me. I was using work email. I'm at a loss as to what pervidious means though.

    Luckily, I do understand the phrase 'data protection'.

    Screendumped in case she does it. I don't understand why she's so angry - I wasn't abusive, I just disagreed with her.
