It was clear that the landlady – Ms Butler was extremely emotional on the 11th August when the story first featured and the time available to us in our breakfast “magazine” format meant we were unable to explore the topic further that day.0

I have seen no-one in any of this thread, or in the one that got deleted, condoning a T not paying their rent. Indeed on this board, we always remind Ts that unfortunately even when a LL is being a total !!!!!! over repairs, Ts are obliged to pay their rent in full and on time (except for when following the Izzet principle)
The point in all of this is that an amateur LL (with a property developer father, allegedly) failed to do her pre-tenancy homework , and then failed to deal with a non-paying T in the proper , legal manner and, accompanied by a police officer, invited the press into the Ts home to verbally abuse her.
When this happens to a homeowner missing mortgage payments it's all sympathy to hope they don't get repossessed. A tenant misses payments and they're called all sorts. So there seem to be dome double standards out there.
We should all pay all our bills on time but any of us could lose our jobs and have our savings run dry before getting back on our feet and this is due to get worse before it gets better. This is why I think it's a bad time to become an accidental landlord who directly relies on each rent payment to come on on time to keep afloat, basically don't do it!0 -
The rent arrears are, and always have been, a smokescreen used to justify the LLs actions. She wanted that house back regardless of the condition of the rent account0

Suzy Carlita Butler ................................I followed the book 100% legally regarding contracts/notices etc, I felt extremely strongly about... the law in this area and wanted it exposed to the public...we did nothing wrong by doing so and have ensurred that the tenant in my case will never be able to do this to someone again [emphasis added]
Any ideas what they have done with her? Sounds very ominous! :shhh:0 -
'we did nothing wrong by doing so and have ensurred that the tenant in my case will never be able to do this to someone again as well as generating huge support for getting a change in the law...'
Who the eff does she think she is? So she is quite OK about naming and shaming then
Well let's see what happens in the future then eh Suzy Butler. I normally find find that with people like these you don't have to do anything because they are quite capable of orchestrating their own downfall.
I shall be watching.
Oh and BTW, Brighton isn't the be all and end all, there are other places and countries where your ideas won't be greatfully received.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
Gather round folks, the latest words of wisdom from Suzy "I want my house back NOW" Butler is hot off the presses:
Suzy Carlita Butler Elizabeth, please clarify exactly what has not been answered and what is so unclear to you? If you followed all the stories I believe everything that has been brought up has been answered. I suggest if you are generally interested you have ...a good listen and look at the itv, gmtv and bbc reports. Any questions still unanswered...then ask! But we haven't really been asked anything exactly, just accused, and I believe that no matter what we say/show you, it will be torn apart, made into something it is not and more of this ridiculous banter will continue. We want to end it as it is not productive. This is not our full time job and tbh after the trauma of the last few weeks, I am getting really tired of peoples bickering on here. I don't feel the need to prove myself to you as I know what happenned, as does Carmen, as do people that I care for. I followed the legal procedures but refused to be a victim within a system which currently has a number of flaws, my son starting school next week, was my drive. I was lucky. It is right that I am in back in my home with my son helping him settle down again. Carmen agrees. We actually met for a drink and discussion yesterday where she again, said how sorry she was for the upset she caused. I am trying as I always have done, to be understanding to her, despite the fact she owes me money and has caused a lot of hurt in my personal life. I will not be taking her to court. She will not be taking me to court. She has assurred me that she will repay me what she owes me in time. I just want peace now and to get my home back on track, pick up the pieces and get strong again.
We are currently awaiting a couple more statements before explaining how we hope to procceed with the campaign. We're not a business and we have limited time and yes, getting people and info up on request is simply not possible! The focus of this page is now not on me and getting my home back anymore, but on the law and the need for a fair change. Please respect this or take your frustrations and discussions that are causing a negative feeling on this page, which is a supporters page, elsewhere. Thanks..have a good evening!See More

So where will the funding for this campaign come from exactly? I ask, and what happened to the charity? I thought the plan was to open an office in Malaga?
I expect there's more publicity in this LL stuff.
What is the motive for all of this because I don't believe Suzy is able to think all of this up by herself.
As I said before, I recon they've 'been taking care' of Carmen, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't bring her out now and again to say how sorry she is in public, all the while taking the backhanders being shoved in her hand.
What the heck is this world coming to? In fact what planet are Suzy and supporters on?Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
I really can't be bothered to set up a new identity on Facebook just to ask a couple of questions that I'm sure wouldn't be answered truthfully anyway!
But they'd be:
Did you really spend any time at all in that tent? or was it just a publicity stunt? Especially given that you are very friendly with your next door neighbour and you father lives locally? Come on... it was just a publicity stunt wasn't it?:)0 -

No. I think you're wrong. I'm leaning towards the side that Suzy Butler would have been happy and able to stay at Mum's or Dad's or other friends - if Carmen Nobre had not got in to arrears.
If rent payment had kept coming, I reckon another extension would have been granted to Carmen Nobre. Especially with all the relocation to Spain mlarky she's admitted to.
Once the money stopped, with tenant in arrears, she was outraged a tenant could stay legally in her home - and not be chucked out quick - and had no stomach for going through a standard legal process. Then all the desire to get her home back.I run a childrens charity and earn just £14,000 a year. I needed to rent my home out for a while so i could save money and afford to keep my home on. What Ms Nobre did was selfish and morally wrong. I do not have much money and this is not a business, but a private let to help me create a better life for my son.I extended her contract by 1 month in May, just before me and my son went to Spain where we were scouting for a rental property and school for him to relocate as we were launching a fundraising office for the charity i MD in Malaga.0 -
We know the answer to that one. It's the arrears maths that most bothers me.0
