sellers do you contact buyer before you send items

I have bought a few items recently from ebay .
I always pay via paypal within a few hours .
Some sellers never contact to say item is being posted ,other almost tell you their life story as they post it a day late .(the latest being my 10 year old was sick and I couldnt get to the post ) .
Do you contact buyers to let them know when items are being sent ,or do you just post it amd move on to the next one .

I contact them after they pay and tell them when I will post. I do sometimes send a message confirming 'the item is on the way'.

I usually just send one to confirm its been posted and to confirm by what method.
  • I send a "thanks for prompt payment, I'll get yer item posted later today or tomorrow".

Or, if a few days have passed and they havent paid... "Hi, I'm going to the Post Office later with a few items, so if you make payment before xxhr I'll get your item sent too...".

I bought an item a few weeks ago for 60 quid and never heard anything from the seller. 2 weeks went by and I asked when I should be expecting my item and all they replied with was "soon". Just a one word reply!

When the NEW item arrived it had bits missing. And again the seller took days to reply to my messaged asking where the other bits were. In the end I opened an SNAD and oh guess what, I got a message within minutes! from them! Still not decided if to neg them or not...
  • I always say thanks for the custom and the item has been sent. If the seller does similar to me he gets 5 stars for communication. If they dont and I get the item quick they get 3.

I send an email once I've posted, e.g. 'I posted your item today, it should be with you within the next day or two'.

The sellers that send a billion auto emails thanking you for buying, for payment, asking for feedback a week later etc etc do my head in.

I as above send one message to my buyers thanking them for their payment and letting them know when I will post their item. My DRS is at 5 for communication.

We sell quite a lot so our emails are automated through Selling Manager Pro.
We send after payment received and when we print the invoice/packing slip to post we send a dispatch email.
Too many emails are a bit irritating but not enough is worse, hopefully we strike the right balance.
Unfortunately Ebay send their own automated messages.
My other annoyance is the amount of people who don't receive the emails, there's plenty that end up filtered as Spam.

    1) i thank them for custom with invoice. 2) i thank them for payment. 3) i then confirm the day I send item (- on rare occasions it may be a day after payment depending on when payment comes through.) (never ever later than 2 days) i really bend over backwards to get item sent as quickly as possible - and lose money doing so yet my dsr is "below standard" according to ebay. i have no idea what hoops ebay expect me to jump through to get above this. you get one malicious buyer and according to them you are "below standard".. grrrrrrrr

thats a bit harsh, can i have your ebay id so i can block you :D

I don't send any emails unless a tracking number is issued for certain items. I haven't got all day to update people, they pay i post, says quite clearly on listing item will be dispatched within 2 days and i also mark items as dispatched so if someones that bothered they can see it marked as such in their myebay.
Sending too many emails bugs me big style i want my item posted not a barage of emails.
Marking someone on comms should only be if you've tried contacting them or asking a question. Low marks for slow/non responce but i don't see why you should be marking down on comms at all if you've not had to contact the seller and you've got your item quickly.

The one time i did send dispatch emails 2 days later i had people moaning they hadn't recieved it when it was going by SP. People seem to take dispatch as i'm going to get it tomorrow !?!
