I still think the majority of western brides still wear white, which is why it becomes a bit iffy when you have to inform your guests not to wear a certain colour. Some would be grateful you'd told them, others would find it a bit rude, especially if they didn't have the money to buy a new outfit.
I wouldn't think you'd inform guests not to wear a certain colour, you'd just spread the word about what you're wearing and hope they'd have the good taste to avoid itif you cared that is, not everyone would

We were in Corfu a few weeks ago and there was a huge wedding party in the grounds of our hotel.
Loads of the female guests wore white, cream or ivory and also lots of the children. I didn't think for a minute that any of them upstaged the bride. The bride wore a beautiful white gown with massive head-dress and train and looked gorgeous.
The tables and chairs had all white covers on them and the trees had white ribbons hanging from the branches and white lanterns.0 -

Was that a Corfiote or tourist wedding though? I always understood that it is a long standing tradition in the UK for female guests not to wear white, and would never do so.0 -

It was a local wedding, not a tourist wedding. So yes, Corfiot. I guess as it's such a hot country, people wear a lot of white anyway. The whole thing was beautiful.
I never get this "tradition" thing TBH. There are loads of traditions connected to weddings which have fallen by the wayside.
Like brides wearing white.
Like not spending the night before with the groom.
Like promising to "love, honour & obey".
Like promising to cherish each other for ever (when there is a HUGE divorce rate)0 -

When I go to a wedding it's because I want the bride and groom to be happy and to have the best day they can. If there's any risk of causing offence by wearing white then why would I do so? I might very well think it's ok but the day isn't about me, it's about them.
Similarly I wouldn't feel it appropriate to wear a jordan style outfit or to swear loudly in front of elderly relatives or to get drunk and fall into the band.
I could'nt have put it better myself.:TA minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
