"PCN" from Civil Enforcement LTD

My car recently went on a work related outing and parked in a private car park. It doesn't know the normal rules for parking in this car park because it did not see any signs, but if you are there for work reasons then you tell the place your details and you are not supposed to get a ticket. My car did this. Actually, my car didn't understand the form, and where it asked for "position" my car wrote "under the trees" rather than the more usual position within the company.
Then a week later I received a PCN sent through the post. This letter is a one side of A4 document, saying I need to pay £90 or £45 within 14 days. I've never had a parking ticket before but somehow this doesn't look real. I'll provide a scan in a minute.
I know I can appeal this through my company because my car went for work related reasons - someone else recently had to do this. But would it be better to just ignore it?

Is it a company car? If it is you'll need to make sure your company don't panic and pay it when they receive debt collector threatograms about it. Don't appeal, do nothing, it will go away.
Apart from that just ignore it of course, as everyone else on this board is with any private parking tickets ever issued under any circumstances (since they all bear no relation at all to any damage or loss and don't come from the landowner so there's no chance of them enforcing a case in Small Claims).
This is such a common scam that almost everyone on this board has had at least one private parking ticket and ignored it (mine was over a year ago and the driver was allegedly there for four hours in a two hour private car park). There is no risk in ignoring everything in the absence of sealed, genuine Court papers, which won't come.
Funnily enough I was only looking at my collection of debt collector letters this week and laughing at them. You can see a preview of the letters to ignore, in the first post of the first thread on this board. Look at the pics in that first thread now, you can see what will come next once you know which debt collector Civil Enforcement use (you'll get the first debt collector threatogram soon enough then you can match it to a letter-chain shown):
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163
Plus you'll see by the number of current threads (of which there are pages and pages!) on that link, just how common this scam is. All the new questions on here today have been asked before lots of times, this thread is one of hundreds! Read some threads on the link above, then look back pages and pages and pages - except for the odd Police or Council ticket and clamping case - all of those threads are from people like you.
All the same, all ignored, doesn't matter who the PPC is. Nothing will happen as long as it's not a hire or company car and the company stupidly pays...If it's your car then you are laughing.
You will just get some free paper aeroplanes (see this Watchdog link to see why that's funny!). Do show your husband these replies and these links:

NEVER pay a private parking ticket. Think no more of it apart from to spread the word.
Oh, and as we don't yet have the full letter-chain from Civil Enforcement on our top sticky thread, could you possibly keep all your letters and scan them into a reply on that thread in due course please? It will probably be about 4 - 6 months before you get the 'final' final demand and then nothing. Copies of those letters scanned the way you have here would be very useful for nervous newbies. Thanks in advance.

It's not a company car, it's mine. It's not even on any finance scheme, although I'm sure that's not relevant. I've only had it since October and as I said this is my first parking ticket of any kind.
I've read some of the threads and know the advice is to ignore it. I just needed someone else to reassure me that mine would be ok. I don't want to ignore it and for it to get worse.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

juno, the following is a link to my very 1st post on this forum.
I trust my experience together with that of countless others on this & other forums will serve to provide you with the reassurance you seek.

Ps Can I strongly suggest that you remove asap all detailed references on you scanned invoice which will identify you & your vehicle to CEL.
The place, date & times are more than sufficient for them to do this & bear in mind PPC's do monitor this & other like forums.
Bottom line, IGNORE, IGNORE & once again IGNORE0 -
I got my second letter today. This one is red.

Nice, they've wasted their money on more coloured ink and a stamp!

Here's the thread to post a reply with those pictures/scans of the letters please:

We still have a few PPCs where their letters are not shown on that thread, it would be great if you could add to the Hall of Shame with your letters (minus ID details, location, dates and ticket number and/or payment barcode).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Waste some more of their money by sending blank pieces of paper back in the post without a stamp, address it as "Accounts Receivables" so they might think it's a cheque

Enclose an envelope inside an envelope inside an envelope, each with cheque enclosed written on. Seal each up with brown tape and make it nice and thickWaste some more of their money by sending blank pieces of paper back in the post without a stamp, address it as "Accounts Receivables" so they might think it's a cheque

Then include some monopoly money or a joke cheque inside. 0 -
Why waste envelopes, Newspaper is better and cheaper.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
