Flourbin's certainly not cheap, but their products are outstanding, I use them for speciality flours, buttermilk powder & bulk yeast

but for white bread flour you can't beat Lidl's, currently 59p for 1.5Kg at my local store, it's better than anything available in a supermarket, even the high-profile branded flours & I've not found anywhere selling cheaper in bulk ... but I'd be delighted to be corrected :o:)

EDIT ... I see AndyBurd's post you're referring to has been deleted, I was a bit suspicious myself, new user with 4 posts, 3 of them promoting the same site (albeit a good one) hmmm

Oh thanks, Lidl's I never thought of that, is it just plain white flour? Have you tried it in a bread maker as that is what I have, I've been using Alisons strong white flour, but my intention is to make bread cheaply as money is tight and we go through it like no tomorrow, thank you

    hi KH,
it's strong white bread flour & works beautifully in the breadmaker as well as by hand, they also have plain & self-raising flour, so make sure you get the green-ish pack with BREAD across the front ;)

I've used all the supermarkets' own brands as well as all the major branded ones & it beats them all

don't be alarmed by the additive mentioned on the pack, it's only vitamin C, helps the bread rise better :)

EDIT ... there are a lot of people on these boards use value/smartprice/basics etc, plain white flour in a breadmaker & get a good result, I haven't tried it myself, but it might be worth trying one bag & seeing how it works out

Thank you Swan, would you be kind enough or any other forum users for that matter be willing to post the recipe you use for the bread as I am only using what it says on the side of the flour packet.

I am a novice at bread making and don't have the money to experiment or time really with working, I also find quick bake (about 2 hours) better than bake (4 hours) for some reason. A successful simple recipe is all I need lol.

you're probably best using the recipe that came with the breadmaker, or if you don't have a booklet/user manual, if you know the make & model, you might be able to download it?

if you can't find a manual to download, ask here or on one of the bread machine threads & someone there should be able to help you

there are loads of bread making threads on the OS Forum, here's a link to the bread making index you might find helpful to start with :)

Found a downloadable manual thank you for that, do you use seeds in your bread makin? I use sesame, pumpkin and poppy seeds, I've been buying them from Tesco but are quite expensive and only available in small packets, do you know where I can buy these in large amounts? By the way I went Lidl's last night for the flour so when I try it out I will post my results.

    hi Keith :)
    hope you like the flour

yes I love seeds in my bread (see recipe below, it's the nicest I've ever made)

the best place to get them seems to vary every time I'm stocking up so I usually check MySupermarket (you get the prices for 4 major supermarkets) against somewhere like say RealFoods then work out the per Kg price & go with whoever's cheapest, although sometimes my local health food store will order by the kilo at a good price & it's worth checking out Asian & Chinese stores if you've any near you

    PoshPaws'
    Seeded Bread
    (adaptation from her hand-made recipe)

    1/2 pint water
8oz malty flour of your choice*
    8oz strong plain flour
    1 Tablespoon oil
    3 Tablespoons rolled oats
    1 + 1/2 teaspoons honey
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 + 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1 Tablespoon of seeds of your choice (or more, I sometimes use 6 or 7 :D)

    * the result will vary depending on what kind you use, Dove's farm works well as a starting point

I've tried this on a seeded setting, medium loaf size, in a Morphy richards, a Panny & a Kenwood & it's worked well in them all, thanks to PoshPaws for the original recipe :T

Hi everyone, can I ask a quick question - if using a breadmaker to make dough and then freezing it, should I prove the dough before freezing too?

    Thanks!
