    If the hard disk is really faulty, a new hard disk would be much cheaper, you've got the serial no, install windows, fixed for £30.

    Checked the cables yet?

    What's wrong with optiplex? Is it that particular model, or them in general?

    Yes, the cables are fine, the drive is detected too, but I'm not sure what to do next? post 35 +

    OK. I'll forget looking at a 'new' machine and focus on repairing the old one first. We are on a Moneysaving site after all. :)

    Second hand 4500's are going on ebay for £40-60, but fixing it would be cheaper, and more satisfying
