is there a reason why you have chosen edimax routers, why not this 1, ive not used edimax so cant comment on them but ive used netgear and they're fine

no reason, just looking for a cheap n option, that netgear is a router only, i was looking for a modem router?

or should i just connect my speedtouch modem to the wireless router? i was told its simpler with a modem router

    Hi Lovenkrands,

Provided the router is setup correctly with valid authentication details and functioning any ADSL2+ router should be compatible with TalkTalk.

TalkTalk do supply N-Type TalkTalk Branded routers which we fully support, these can be purchased for £30 or alternatively if you do speak to the Retentions Team this may be offered for free as part of a contract renewal.

  • Got myself a netgear dgn2000 which initially took a while to establish a connection, then seemed to work ok and speed wasn't too bad. I turned it off with pc (not sure whether its best to leave it on all the time?) and since then, its takes ages to connect and keeps dropping the connection, and when all the lights on the router are ok, it works but is seriously slow, taking minutes to load a page.

I even tried connecting my speedtouch modem which only connected at about 400kbps, I usually get closer to 1mb, has having my router connected made talktalk slow my speed down?

That's one of the reasons I wasn't sure about getting a router from talktalk as I've not been too impressed with my broadband recently and don't want to sign up for another 18 months if it continues like this.

I'm off to join the talktalk forum and if it doesn't get sorted a new isp

    Hi lovenkrands,

If you are having issues with the speed and this is consitent across multiple routers we would have to investigate this in more detail.

If you can register on the TalkTalk members forum and post in the Speed and Web Browsing Section we can address this matter for you, invesitgate in more detail and advise on resolution of the issue.

  • I've always preferred Linksys kit. I've used:

Bundled VirginMedia Dlink DIR615 - good speed, poor range, not really fiddled about with it much.
Edimax - average, QoS didn't work so when the kids where abusing Xboxlive or uTorrent no-one else could surf the net, needed rebooting every 24hours, but the speed was good and range was excellent.
Belkin x2 - 1 returned after two days and about 20 reboots, the other refused to play nice with Vista's new IP stack.
Unbranded Ebuyer/Chinese stuff - poor, but made a ok switch/WLAN extender until the wallwart PSU died.

A couple of Linksys WRT54s - one ADSL model given away after swapping to cable and one cable model bricked after an unfortunate incident involving hot coffee... The WRTs seemed to give the best range/speed/features, and a new one is high on my list of things to buy after Xmas is paid for.
