ouch, firmware misflashes can turn your router into an expensive doorstop.
http://www.tenda.cn/product/show.php?productid-343.html
under support has manual and firmware downloads
i know my username and password, have checked it with my existing speedtouch modem.
i only tried the firmware upgrade after it wouldn't work, got firmware from same as above, so don't think it's that.
could it be my existing speedtouch was still installed (by that i mean usb connected, not phone line), I didn't want to lose my only internet access, if i couldn't get router working?0 -

no completly unrelated, infact a good idea to leave it installed so if ever your router has a mishap you can switch back to it quickly, also if the internet goes down you can test with a different modem to tell if its you or the ISP.
can you connect to the modem config screen with both the laptop and desktop? worth seeing if you see the problem with both to make sure its not a setting on your PC causing the problem.
can you tell from lights on the front of the modem if its 'syncing' or not, does it keep flashing slowly or settle down with most lights on?0 -
Do you have a working connection using the USB modem (and so established that the internet connection is OK at the exchange end)?
If so I'd agree with Jasx that the firmware upgrade may have bricked your router.
What indications do the diagnostic lights on the router give you?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
should have mentioned, i also tried to get it to work with cable straight to laptop on a different phone socket, all before i tried any upgrade.
i don't think i even got the upgrade to start, wasn't sure what you were meant to do?
get internet connection no problem with speedtouch modem
most lights on modem settle down, but flashing from dsl0 -
I had the Tenda n from ebuyer. Very easy to set up (it set itself up actually lol) and the information and layout of it's mainentance pages is very good
Virgin then came and fitted me a D-Link DIR 615 as part of an upgrade and this is much worse - not only for info/usability but at least once a fortnight it will lose its connection and require a reboot
If I was not so lazy, I would swap it back for the Tenda0 -
opinions on this one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/edimax-ar-7284wna-wireless-150mbps-adsl2-2-modem-router-04274402-pdt.html, please
i take it this is an n standard router, it just says it compatible with it?, my laptop's got a n card so might as well get router which makes use of it.
thanks0 -

This one is a wireless router (no modem) suitable for cable broadband. You want an ADSL modem/router for an ADSL broadband connection. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
