Oh dear exactly what I expected then. I know what you mean about paranoia that another bank will do the same. It'll wear off after a couple of months :o

So given your experience, I wonder if they suspected me of mney laundering or the like? Certainly I'd never received monies from abroad other than withdrawing my PayPal balances which I think come from the EU mainland but still.

I wonder why they never told me the reason for having done this. Bonkers. Rubbish bank. Bet you're glad to be rid of them - I am!

So where are you off to bank with now? I recommend HSBC. They're the bomb. Just stay away from Santander.

Bye Bye Barclays  Glad never to come back :T

Yep I'm still paranoid. Apparently my account will close until 1st of September. Any transactions made tills then will be investigated by them. I'm going to look for a student account from a bank that will take me.

My first choice is Natwest for the railcard but to be honest. The reason why I choose barclays was because I have bad credit. So I may have to get a basic account.

my credit is not fantastic and i got a natwest step account, nationwide flex, craptander, and sharkleys all of them have debit cards and allow s/o and d/d which is all i want.

Barclays is only used for bills now, and the natwest account keeps all the available cash safe, I banked with Barclays for 15 years and they became a complete nightmare around 5 years ago.

But, they do have to investigate suspicious transactions in or out of the account, as annoying as it is / was for you, if it was the other way around and you had money taken from your account and sent to say Nigeria, and they did nothing would you be happy ?

Just move on, HSBC or First Direct are the best bet if you want to bank with a quality institution, i wish i could but my credit history wont allow me for around two more years lol

    good luck.
