I am flying to Spain this week and completely forgotten what make up they count as liquid. Am I right mascara and lipstick is counted as liquid? What about powder and blusher?

Thanks

Titch, you are quite right in what you say. anything that is liquid or 'semi solid', is classed as liquid, and should be placed in your checked in baggage.

in my honest opinion, i would just put everything into checked-in baggage (but watch the weight though............. lol)

Basically I think its anything that is not solid i.e. vaseline is classed as liquid. Bacially if in doubt put it in the clear plastic bag with the other liquids.

This shows what Stansted airport say: http://www.stanstedairport.com/portal/page/Stansted%5EGeneral%5EAirport+information%5EStansted+security%5EHand+baggage/c23cb8874d9b7210VgnVCM10000036821c0a____/448c6a4c7f1b0010VgnVCM200000357e120a____/

You need to careful with things like small knives because whilst the link provided says you can take them, Stansted allows them but Luton does not.

  • I just put all make up in the clear bag along with my mini toilettries and had no problem before since they are under 100ml.Only thing I got confiscated once was my tweezers as I was told they could be used as a weapon (this was Stansted) then got on the flight to have 2 women sat beside me knitting.. surely they are more dangerous to tiny tweezers!?!?
  • I had some jobsworth search my bag at Bournemouth once and made me go and buy a clear bag for a quid just for a lipstick !! Surely, in that case no one should be allowed to carry a biro either ! Play it save and put it all in your suitcase, much easier all round

I love the liquid debate as I have to run the gauntlet everyday with one of airport securities finest.

A little story if you will indulge me.

A couple of years ago on a long night shift me and a colleague popped to the local town to get a chinese and intended to bring it back to work when we presented ourselves at security i was informed i couldnt bring my sweet and sour sauce airside, however food in sauces are allowed so thinking on my feet i poured the sweet and sour over my chicken balls in the front of one of BAA's finest and eh voila I was allowed airside with my nosh.

Its like i find it amazing I can bring ice cubes airside but not water, odd that.

Anyway just chuck everything in your re-sealable bag and bob is your dads brother.

    Hi there

I have just come back from hols and wasnt very sure about the checking of clear bags. I was asked if I had anything over 100mls - I didn't, everything was under 100mls , but what if I had said NO anyway and I did .. who would check? Is it picked up through security? What is the procedure ?
remember going to New york a couple of years ago and things being very strict then

It turns out my hand luggage had a huge hole in the inside pocket in which my lip glosses had fallen down, I didnt realise until I had landed about the hole until I looked for my phone!

On my return journey I made it through security with a bottle of water .. Now I know i'm genuine, but what about others who may not be?

If anyone could explain that would be great
    Thanks
