  • You must must must go to Century 21 - its amazing. I got designer and non designer stuff tehre for the kids as Xmas pressies lasy year - $16 for DKNY jeans for my daughter. $10 non branded jeans for me.
Lots of sunglasses, hats, menswear, kidswear and enerything a gal could want or need. Opposite Ground Zero.
Terriblesaver - hoping to improve!!! Unsecured debt ... £[STRIKE]57938[/STRIKE] £51453

  • If you have any dollars left over after visiting Century 21, for really cheap decent basic clothes, get to Kmart.... https://www.kmart.com (NYC address is on the website, along with some current store prices)

Or if you want to take a shopping trip, go to Port Authority Bus Terminal, go to the NJ Transit windows, ask to go to Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ. They have a direct service to the mall. The mall is huge and you will need a full day to go around it. Macy's is there, along with some other expensive shops, but you will find another huge department store called JC Penney's, and they have some nice things too at decent prices. https://www.westfield.com/gardenstateplaza/

Good luck and have a great time!

Was going to suggest TJMaxx (I think the same company as TJMaxx over here), also Marshalls - same sort of discount designer stuff - branches everywhere over there. Happy shopping!!

Century 21 down by the World Trade Centre was is very good indeed. There are some bus trips that go to a discount mall somewhere but I dont know any more than that about it. Bloomingdales is expensive but Macys wasn't too bad - especially if they have a sale on.

Get to the bus station early - esp on Friday/Sat. The last bus out is 9am. Best shopping ever. We are going again this year for the 3rd yr in a row!
  • I agree with everyone, Century 21 is Great!

It is a good idea to remove all the tags/packaging from your purchases before you fly back so that your luggage contents attract less attention.

I also recommend Costco! There is one in Brooklynn. The prices are fantastic, much better than the Costco here in the UK. Also, you can get your membership there in the US and use it in the UK when you return, http://www.costco.com/.

  • Daffys is another one to try. Dollar rate so favourable at the mo. that most shops are interesting.
  • Someone does a shopping guide for nyc. Time Out maybe? Also iirc Village Voice used to have information on the best of the best on their website.

If you catch sales time you can get some great bargains at the big stores. For camera bargains from someone you can trust head over to b&h though check the validity of the manufacturer's warrenty in the UK -- it can vary. Check in advance at bhphotographic.com.

K&R and Tower are good for music.

J C Penney's is another US department store that do reasonable priced stuff. Old Navy is very good for clothes too and always have lots of special offers
  • i'm hoping you catch the end of the summer stuff clearance...when in the dept. stores like macy's use the price scanning machines on the walls, as sometimes (in fact quite regularly this trip ) the sale items have been dramatically reduced from the marked price ...it also saves the disappointment of picking up the full price garment that someone has put on the half marked price rail.
i'm going to be the odd one out but my wife and I have never rated century 21 ...but if you're going to ground zero you may as well pop in anyway.
some amazing deals on mens suits in tj maxx at 620 Ave. Of The Americas (6th ave. ) looking at the map between E11th st and E12th st ...it's upstairs and the only one i believe in manhattan...you may be lucky and go at the same time as they have done further markdowns.
woodbury common is quite good especially if you don't get the chance to go to any other outlets. i don't know what the coach journey is like and if the day becomes a long long one as i've always driven myself. there's a tj maxx within 1 and a half miles but you wouldn't be able to walk from woodbury to it.
good bargains at woddbury common on last visit only a week ago were ...armani exchange , ralph lauren (jeans and polo) , tommy hilfiger, seiko , lladro ( dodgy if you get stopped by customs due to your allowance) , eddie bauer (being selective),fcuk,timberland,gap,...but it's whatever does it for you.
thanksgiving last year had some great offers from calvin klein but nothing was really apparent last week.
we got a lot of our stuff from the big stores in the malls ( if only i'd had that Macy's discount card ! )
good luck and if you're hiring a car post on here and we may be able to give you some other ideas
