I was Desclined for Co-Op 3 times but I have currently got Lloyds TSB and Natwest. My Alliance & Leicester account is supposed to be being updated but I haven't heard anything from them since visiting the branch.

Not sure if the Co op are doing with the application my daughter put in some months ago online, she received an e-mail acknowledging the receipt but nothing since and calling is drawing a blank - should she wait to open an account when the freshers accounts start to come out or look to one with the next best overdraft??
  • My son has never received his railcard, hes called before & gone to the branch.

He went to the branch again today and they said he should have queried it before and the info would have been in his welcome pack

    He never received this either.

He told them today he was going to close his account and they really didnt care

  • Hi, my son has just tried to upgrade his current account with Santander to their student account and this has been refused. After an appeal by the bank employee his application has still been refused but no reason for the refusal was given. Can anyone help with what steps we should now take?

    Thanks

Try another bank if they don't want his custom. Their staff are a joke anyway...

I applied for the Halifax Student Account online the other day even though I don't start university until 6 months and on the application they asked for term time address but I put down Non applicable on every field as you don't really know your term time address until you move in.

Today while I was accessing my normal Halifax account online the student account showed up but it said they are still processing. Does this mean I have been accepted?
  • Hellooo,
I'm looking to start a student account as i'm going to uni in september/october and need somewhere to put my student loan/grant seperate from my current bank account.
So far i've just seen student accounts that last for the normal 3 years, i'm going to university to study veterinary science which lasts 5 years. Are there any student accounts which last this long or take people like me into consideration?
    Thanks :)

I had my account for 4 years. It's not that you can't have it throughout your course, you just don't get any additional benefit. The overdraft is the same amount as in 3rd year. They all ask for proof of course anyway, which they use to determine when to move you to the grad account. I just waited until the summer of my third year to pop in and say 'btw, I'm doing a 4 year course now, here's my new student id' and voil!, changed.

Btw, if anyone's interested, I applied for a Co-op student account in Dec, heard nothing, thought it was due to xmas then rang them up in Jan. Seemed my letter got lost in the post. Noted down what they said they needed, sent it off. Silence. 1 month later I got a text 'something was missing please ring this number'. Except the number was wrong. The main bank number is also the wrong one and the student one isn't on the website. Bank actually passed me on to Co-op supermarkets at one point. Interestingly, student bank support is only 9-4:30 Mon-Fri. Turned out the main issue was my proof of address, as I'd put my rental as I wanted a proof of address for the future...4 mths by that stage. The wonderful circle of red tape. I also discovered my uni had a specific service for proof of course for bank accounts because every other type of company is happy with the online proofs. Unis have been paperless for years. <_<
Anyhow, finally got it set up at the end of March with my 'home' address. Only took 4 months and my savings nearly running out entirely.

Looking ahead for Student accounts for going to Uni this September - is there going to be a 2011/2012 up to date report out soon?

prob not til later as the banks haven't announced their deals yet. give it until august (people can't apply until they are accepted on courses, so it tends to happen closer to results being given out).
