there are many ways a student can have a credit rating, car insurance, mobile phone contracts etc
search on here for 'credit rating' or 'credit score'
there is a guide explaining what contributes towards your credit rating and how to improve it0 -
co-op twice. but so did santander and halifax. i've also had my HSBC account converted so it currently has a £500 overdraft and their max for year one is £1000.
Not bad as I currently already have £1900 available credit before any student accounts.
How did you get them to accept after 2 rejections!! I have just been rejected by co op. And I really wanted an account with them as I like their ethical policy and i have had my main bank account with them for 3 years now. would it work better if i upgraded my current account. I was going to keep them seperate and have my old one for paying bills.0 -

I decided to go for Clydesdale as Bank of Scotland rejected me. They gave me a £300 overdraft, however it's not entirely 0% it's like 0.6% so I'd get charged around a pound for being £300 overdrawn in a month which kinda sucks.0 -

Hiya! I am already a graduate and I'm back at Uni doing a post grad course. What account should I go for as the student accounts cover you for the 3 years your at Uni but I will only be there for the next year

Just off the phone to Natwest:mad:
I 'opened' my account with them on the 20th August, when I left, he said, "that's your account opened, you shall recieve your stuff through the post" - So I thought, OK that's fine. Just back from a long weekend this weekend, and still absolutely nothing from them, so I phone up Natwest to ask about my account.
"It was opened on Friday, sir" - FRIDAY?! So it took them 3 weeks to open my account? Despite being specifically told that it was open when I left the building. There's a reason I was (trying to) open it 5 weeks before, so that I could use the account before going to university. There's very little chance now that I'll get my card/account number/railcard before I head through, which means an unnecessary trip home to pick this stuff up.
Ahh - needed a vent! The branch are going to phone me to discuss it, they'll have to sweet talk the hell out of me to get me back on side.0 -
I've had a similar experience. Did the initial application online, received stuff through the post to send back - fine. Aforesaid stuff said I could take it into a branch and do it there and some nice person would talk me through the account etc etc. Took it to one branch - first question have you got the envelope to send it back. No, it says I can do it in branch. Ok... He goes away and photocopies and stamps my documents and comes back and tells me to put them in the envelope and send them back myself because 'I haven't got the staff to do it now.'Just off the phone to Natwest:mad:

Second branch I go into are totally clueless. Girl on desk, after muttering similarly about the envelope goes away and asks someone, who eventually tells her yes it can be done in branch (really? the piece of paper isn't lying?) and that they'll send it off now and that's the end of it. That was last week, I'm still waiting for the account to actually open. Just called to ask what was happening and to get the docs sent to my term time address where I am now and they have no record of my existence! I was advised to give it a couple more days and see... mmm, when my stuff has been sent to my HOME address where I am not!
I'm fast beginning to think that no bank are actually competent to do what they say at all. Thus far this month I've had trouble with Lloyds TSB (apparently making an account joint is far too difficult, but now seem to have managed it), Santander/A&L (decided to cancel my card for no reason, and making a joint account is far beyond the realms of possibility) and now NatWest.0 -
I've applied with co-op. Not too fussed about the rail card at natwest as I have my bike (motorbike not pushbike. I don't want to travel to manchester from cardiff on a pushbike!!!)
I have had to apply 3 times! 1st time, I got rejected. Looking back at the application though, I knew I would as the address was wrong (don't ask! Very strange thing!) as well as the fact that I have an outstanding debt with Halifax. So I applied again, got accepted but the title was wrong. Called up and they couldn't amend it just for a title. So now I have applied again, and been accepted. Just need to send my stuff off. Strange because I'm sure they rejected me beacause of the outstanding debt.
I did apply at nat west. Horrible experience and no help at all.0 -
