  • Don't think of any caffinated drink as 'fluid intake' - it has the opposite effect - for every glass of coke you drink, you have to drink 2 glasses of water just to get your body back to where it was in terms of hydration.

As to how much water you need to drink to stay healthy - this is a good explanation - http://curezone.com/foods/waterpage.asp

And for stopping any fizzy drinks - http://curezone.com/foods/aspartame.asp

If you really want something fizzy, then carbonated waters as already mentioned, or Organic sodas, are the best options.

THink about the teeth Lillibet! Went for a family checkup yesterday, and littlest DS teeth were the best, though theres only a year and a bit between him and ds1. Littlun is 5 and ds1 is 6. He will have had a LOT less exposure to fizzy drink. We do have it for parties, and it's good because somethin I used to buy, albeit at about 14p a bottle (value cola) suddenly becomes a luxury item in their eyes.

I know this will sound really really stupid but sounding stupid hasn't stopped me so far so I'll tell you :D

When I was pregnant I had to give up my lovely wine and my diet coke and so I switched to the diluted fruit juice. I used to fill a glass with ice, add my juice (orange and pineapple), top up with water then add two cocktail cherries and a slice of lemon/orange on a cocktail stick, a plastic stirrer and two straws :o It was my treat :o wasn't I sad?

The new Del Monte Fruit juice in the bottle are delish (juice bar or something). They're expensive but a bottle will last me for the best part of a week because I dilute it and only have it as a daily treat.

By the end of my preganancy my I would ask DH for a drink and he would ask "ice, fruit and toys?" :D
Just run, run and keep on running!

I used to love diet drinks but now try to have water with a slice of fresh lemon in it and ice cubes - sometimes with a bit of mint from the garden.

Apparently lemon helps u absorb the water better?

Thanks for the mint tip, have just tried it and is nice - very subtle flavour. Also another benefit i have noticed is that it hides the stale flavour of water when it has been sitting around a bit - I am a bit like that girl in the film Signs!

  • I found that pure orange juice and fizzy water has helped me cut down my diet coke intake. I'm gradually trying to reduce the amount of orange juice to fizzy water until it's fizzy water only then I will alternate between fizzy water and tap water.
    Good luck.
  • I've been drinking diet fizzy drinks for the last 20 years-up to 4 litres daily.
Four weeks ago I decided to stop, went cold turkey and so far, so good.
I am now drinking about 3-4 litres of ice cold water daily and loving it. My bank balance is looking healthier too!
  • Another ex diet coke addict here, stopped it completely two months ago on Monday past (but have given it up before for a few weeks at a time). I stopped because the stuff was making me ill - headaches, IBS symptoms and loads of others. I originally thought it was caffeine but the caffeine free stuff was just as bad so I came to the conclusion it was all the other chemicals in it making me ill (aspartame/Ace K etc). I did used to drink shed loads of the stuff all through my twenties.

Felt cravings for a month but now think the stuff is vile and also now make a huge point to really avoid any artificial sweeteners (its gobsmacking what they are in), I'll take my chances with sugar.

I only drink full fat coke towards the end of a very long mountain bike ride these days when I can burn off the sugar and the caffeine helps my concentration, any other time the sugar/caffeine buzz makes me high which is fun for a while but the crash later is not pleasant.

I just went cold turkey. I've always drank a couple of litres of water a day as I do loads of exercise but I cultivated a fruit/herbal tea habit for when I got a bit bored of water. It was the boredom of water that always made me go back to it in the past.

So I am going to lock you in a room and you have a choice. You can take a bottle of coke with you or nothing. Which of these two choices will keep you alive the longest?

Your statement above is rubbish, as is the drivel on the website you link to!

This thread is brilliant and thanks to all posters.
I easily drink 2 litres of pepsi (diet or max) a day. My preffered tipple.

As of this moment I am going cold turkey.
And all the posters on here have inspired me to do it - thanks.

    here we go then
We all evolve - get on with it
