I suffer with SAD and feel a bit fed up just thinking about the clocks going back. Personally I would much rather have an extra hour in the afternoon than the morning, but everyone has their own opinion. Whatever the government do, its not going to please every one is it?Pink_Womble wrote: »I agree the clocks going back and forth takes a little adjustment, but surely life is about being able to adjust.
My MAJOR concern is what about all the SAD sufferers? they have a hard enough time living in this country that has more darkness than light.
Darker mornings are going to mean more people being signed off sick from work or getting sacked etc etc because they can't get going in morning.
I think its a ridiculous idea and am really concerned about the amount of people in favour of this.
(why is no-one talking about this angle, or am i totally missing something?? :undecided)0 -
How many children are going to be killed before this DUMB IDEA is Dead and Buried. I spent the Winter of 1969 driving the A442 in Shropshire. It was still dark at 08-00 Hrs with the road lined with the country school children awaiting the School Bus. How long they had to wait in the dark for its arrival, HOW SCARED THEY MUST HAVE BEEN EACH PASSING VEHICLE (HGV's as well as cars). I as the Driver was worried sick in case the children slipped and fell or even being bored started larking about on the grass verge. At least in the evening if it is dusk or dark when they drop off the School Bus the time spent at the roadside is minimal as the walk home is either short or down the farm house track, Not the long wait on the side of an "A" Road without a pavement hopping the School Bus will turn up as quickly as possible.-1

Its a great idea to have lighter evenings as we will all be saving on electric bills by not having to have lights on so early
But it gets dark enough for lights on at about 3pm in December, I really don't think an hour will make any difference, as it's lights on time when you get home from work anyway.
It's only a game

Definitely put the clocks back.
I'm old enough to remember the trial carried out in (I think) the early 1970's.
Here in NW England travelling on freezing roads in the dark in the early morning was utter misery. During the evening rush hour, the frost has usually not yet got a grip.0 -
Why not just shift it 1/2 an hour then we are in the middle for everyone and will never have to be inconvienced again.0

Why don't we compromise and put the clocks back 30 minutes in the autumn and leave them there permanently? We can then refer to ourselves as being in the UTC+0.5 time zone rather than GMT or BST.mr_thrifty wrote: »Why not just shift it 1/2 an hour then we are in the middle for everyone and will never have to be inconvienced again.
I've been banging on about shifting the clocks by 30 mins and then leaving it!!! It's such a simple solution that it is clearly never going to happen. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
I have kept my clocks on BST (British standard time I call it) all the year round for the last 3 years, it saves a lot of messing about. As I'm retired it doesn't cause a problem and I used to hate the dark afternoons.
I remember when the last experiment was tried in the 60's or 70's and I thought it was great.0 -

For much of the year most of the population is still in bed after it has got light and then stays up after it has got dark using artificial light. This is a simple no cost way of reducing carbon emissions.0

Pity we can't meet halfway and move the clocks by 1/2 hour.0
