I picked one up at BP in the end, did you not read that far? It was around 21.00, not sure of the exact time though.......0 -

You expect a garage to not only stock bulbs but keep catalogues so you know which bulb you need.
Go to a motor factors, and not halfrauds either otherwise you will be paying over a quid per bulb.
P21W (382) actually, the most common type of rear car bulb there is, either clear or amber, it wouldn't have mattered as the lenses are coloured..........0 -
dam them petrol stations, they stock sandwiches, drinks etc but not indicator bulbs,0

go to halfords and they will have it thereif not will order one for you plus would be cheaper than a petrol station:A VK :A0

Both local petrol stations to me - Total and Shell, sell lots of car cosumables - bulbs, fuses, wipers, oil, emergency filler cap, tyre valves etc. Petrol stations are first place I go to buy a bulb.0

Plenty on Ebay, pack of 10 for about £2.20 handy to stock up and put spares in the car0

With all due respect, I think the responses advising you should instead use eBay, Halfords, car spares shop, etc. are completely missing the point.
It's a convenience/necessity thing. By their very nature, car 'emergencies' don't always occur within Halfords/motor factor's opening times (assuming you have one local in the first place), and they also don't usually give 24-48hrs notice of occurring, as would be required for the delivery of an Internet purchase.
Yes, in terms of shop space there will be more profitable items a garage could sell, but it should be mandatory by law that there are certain items that a garage must sell to aid a motorist in need. In much the same way that a motorway service station cannot be built without assurances of providing a list of zero-profit services to the motorist (free parking, free toilets, 24hrs food facilities, etc.).
Just let me know your opinion on the matter when you break down on the way home from work at 9pm, and the welcoming lights of a garage up the road encourage you to trudge all the way up to it (in the pouring rain) in order to buy a new battery/emergency fan belt/fuel can/fuse/jump leads/tow rope... only to return with a flippin' caffè macchiato.0 -
i expect a lot of it is that petrol stations are inclined (as any business) to sell things that have a fast turnover, food, drink, sarnies, booze, pot noodles etc. Our local ones have the minimal amount of car spares but what can you do......0
