How long is your commute to work?

Hi Guys

Question in the title

Reason I am asking if I am about to possibly take a job that will be a 1hr 15min train commute each way. Yes the wage warrents doing this kind commute.

Commute is Nottingham to Birmingham (Will be for 5 months before I can move to Brum)

So how long does everyone take to get to work?

Ay x

  • at the mo, its 10 minutes, but in my last job (which i was made redundant from ) it was an hour. i got used to the hours commute each way, and found i had 'wound down' by the time i got home.

My hubby commutes 67 miles each way - over the M62 to Manchester. Takes anything from 1h15 to 3 hours each way! My commute is 10 mins - I am a vicar and so have to live local to the area where I work.

My commute over the past academic year has been around 1 minute (my school is a few metres along the road!).

It's been great not having to worry about transportation!

now about 15-20 mins by car

used to be 1 hr 15 mins!! I did enjoy the job but found the winter months a real pain

How will you be travelling? That would be of concern to me if I had to do a long commute again, if I could go by train I would be able to 'work' on the journey, by car I'd probably say no!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

I commuted 3 hours each way, daily, between London and Brum. I managed to keep this up for 4 or 5 months. Now I work in London and the commute takes around 40 minutes, but 1hr 15 mins is pretty much par for the course in London - that's not necessarily for a salary that you might deem "worth it".

Have a good think about whether you can make use of your commuting time - whether for leisure (reading, crosswords, iPad) or for work (reading paperwork, using a blackberry to reply to or sort e-mail etc.). Also, does the job have any flexibility e.g. working from home, or compressed hours / 9 day fortnights?

5 mins by car every two weeks to sign on ;o)))
  • 45 mins each way - which is 'my time' where I can listen to my music (loudly if I want to) used to be 1 hr 45 mins each way which became a real drag after about 6 months.
  • 20 - 50 minutes by bus (depending on which bus I can get and time of day.)

My manager's commute must be about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. He lives in Stoke-on-Trent but works in Manchester. In rush hour it must be a nightmare.
