We had such a problem last year with condensation that caused the black stuff on oyr white seals. We have since had new central heating and our house is now lovely and warm. However, before our new central heating, we bought a de-humidifier which we put on over the night and this did the trick to stop most of the condensation0

Not very old style, but diy shops sell a spray you can use to kill it off and stop more forming, worked brilliantly when we lived in a basement flat. Fresh air is the best preventative, bit cold this time of year to have windows open all the time though! Good luck!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Black on window seals can easily be got rid of this way: make a thick mixture of bicarb of soda & bleach then paste onto the seals withan old toothbrush, wait half an hour or longer if its really bad then wash off=clean seals
Going to try this myself today. We have black spots on our seals also.0 -
Any one got the best idea to remove black mould from my glass windows
which are the result of condensation it gathers on the seals so i need to remove the mould without damageing the seals
Thanks0 -
I use Dettol mould and mildew remover to get rid of anything like this that grows on my windows. I spray a bit on a damp cloth and rub the mould off, and it works perfectly and I'd imagine that it won't damage the seals, as long as you use as little as possible as infrequently as you can.
You could use plain bleach which would be cheaper, but I think the Dettol stuff has fungicides etc which stop the mould growing back so quickly. Be careful when you use it though, as it will take the colour out of clothes, cloths, curtains etc.0 -

Also make sure you wear gloves. I bought some of this last week and it stripped the moisture out of my hands. It works very well though.0 -
I have this problem BADLY in my conservatory all autumn and winter.
Mr Frugal decided bleach was the way to go    But bleach can perish the rubber seals so do NOT use bleach !
I use regular Dettox spray and this seems to keep it at bay the longest
Its fine on the glass (i thought it might be smeary) and the mould comes off easily and stays gone for longer than other products I have used.
I also have a de-humidifier (about £60 from B&Q) in there to keep condensation down, it works well and as long as we empty it regularly we get no condensation :j
Hope that helps0 -
I have UPVC windows and along the edges i am starting to get black mould on the seals (not actualy on the window but the seals on the frame)
Is there anything in can use the get this off short of re-sealing them?
Its not too noticable on most windows but in the bathroom its quite bad (couldn't be bothered to move all the lotions and potions off the window to clean them:o
Any help would be great thanks0 -
Hi Lauren,
There's an earlier thread with some ideas on getting rid of the mould on window seals that may help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.
