Affordable 95% would be good enough.

Yes saving £30K is a nightmare, but if peope can't save £6K or £7K they really shouldnt be committing to something like a house anyway.

that's why we need to build more houses
that's not completely the asnwer though - the South East is crowded already and Scotland is less densely crowded.

would building more houses in Scotland solve the issues around expensive houses in the South East? i know it won't and that's why i say that building more houses isn't the only option to factor in..

100% mortgages simply cause the price of the property to rise until sufficient people are priced out leaving the supply - demand balance re-established; then the properties are 'unaffordable' again.

only increasing the supply or reducing people's wish to own property will reduce the price over any period of time

    that seems self evident

I'm not sure your point here unless it's to ask everyone to endlessly add clarification that the shortgage of houses isn't a universal problem but it is very significant in certain areas of the UK

building more houses in the south east doesn't really affect the price as much as it would in Scotland because of the demand in the South East and especially around London. so supply isn't really the answer here.

to add to that there is only so many new houses you can build in the south east due to it being very crowded already. increasing the supply in Scotland ir even Wales would affect prices more directly as there would be less demand.

so your solution is building loads and loads of houses in Scotland and so reduce the average price for the UK... bizarre

no idea where you got that from but anyway...

translated for the hard of reading is to create demand for people to live in other parts of the country not just the South East.

    the demographics are skewed...

I think such laws as only allowing British Citizens to own UK residential property may quiet things down a bit. I believe Australia has something like it.

I don't actually agree, when you first buy a house you need as much spare cash as possible, so you may have £10k but you rather have it available for say, improvements to the property.

Yeah, good idea. Let's disposses all non-british citizens right now and force them into renting. Or will there be another law only allowing british citizens to rent also? You silly man.
And I suppose the same rule applies to the 5.5M british citizens living abroad?

    I doubt it.
