Depends on where they are - buses in London are cheap, frequent, and pretty fast, too....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

£3.50? Bargain!
On-street car parking round here is more like £7 an hour....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Hamish, I've not read the whole of where this thread has diverted to, but:HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »...If you shift the burden over the course of several generations, and use population growth to maintain the ratio of workers to pensioners, you can achieve your goal without crippling an entire generation with 70% to 90% tax rates for their lifetime...
As real unemployment is increasing and numbers of pensioners are increasing I'm guessing that the ratio is not being maintained and is getting wider.
The government is now saying that we must work until we are sixty-six, when in actual fact a large number will not even work until they are twenty-six.HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »...If you use immigrants to boost population, then you win twice, as immigrants generate a net profit to society as they use less services in a lifetime than the native born population, but pay the same taxes...
Totally disagree with all five points in this statement.Marching On Together

Higher prices mean higher differentials between bands.
For the record, I am one of those odd people quite happy in my house. I'm not sure why I'd need more living space; but I can appreciate the problems for those that do.
Showing empathy for people in a difficult situation is a world away from negative house ramping.0 -

Given your location I'm not surprised. But you can hop on a tube and your buses are frequent and pretty reliable(?) I think, so car ownership is the exception rather than the rule.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
