Well in a sense she's right - they do talk when they're ready, signing isn't magic, and I'm not sure Oli would have been slower without it, but it's just another tool that can be useful - I just noticed that he's completely changed the way he says milk; he started off clicking his tongue like you would to a horse, and today I noticed he's saying a word that's much closer to the word milk - he used the sign as well, so it was easy to see what he was saying without him getting frustrated.

Definitely the best way to get them talking is still just to chat to them - I'm not very chatty, and have to try hard to remember - he talks much more when there are noisier people around.

Congratulations on team blue Jojo - we had a Boris-bump too - I hated it! OH's brothers refer to this one as Borisina..... OH calls her Project Lentil - strange folk they are!

Oli is a bit off colour this afternoon, so we might change our plans for a muddy walk and make a cake as well, and work out what to do with the whole fish he chose in the supermarket, eyes and tail and everything :eek:

I am a little squeamish about fish....

I was reading in the Annabel Karmel cookbook that comes free with this month's Mother and Baby magazine that introducing them to solids (as in stuff they have to chew) helps them with speech as it's the same muscles being used. I thought that was quite interesting and another reason to wean baby-led instead of solely with purees?
