i have 3 children...5,7 and 9.i cant get 3 boosters in the back as i have only a citroen c3.However..i feel uncomfortably using the front seat for my eldest on a booster(air bag on pasenger side).Anyone know what 2 do for the best?shove all 3 in the back...eldest without booster or put 2 in the back and eldest in the front on booster
If 3 boosters do not fit in the back, you can put the eldest in the back without a booster and the other 2 in boosters - you would not be breaking the law... I also read that if you are on an "unexpected short journey" (doesnt include the "planned school run" you do every day), you would also not be fined (how do you prove that your journey is NOT and "unexpected short journey"). My dad was telling me about a newspaper article he read saying that this new law will save 1.5 lives a year. Now dont get me wrong, if your child is the the 1 or half a life saved, or any child saved for that matter then that of course is good. But what about the way other lives can be saved (speed humps down roads)....there are more children killed on our roads that aren't in cars, but the cars are driven by lunatics. I do wonder how long this law will stay effective....

Its not just lives that is saves its also disability from the damage a seatbelt can cause to children

I do agree, and I wasn't saying it wasnt a good thing...anything that makes a child safer is important. x
  • I'm assuming this is still operating but when we needed our latest car seat, one year ago, we got one for free through a government / council initiative called Homesafe (I think) because we live in a deprived area. I think you have to recieve some sort of benefit or be on a low income. We're not on benefits but on a low income although they didn't ask for any proof. Worth contacting the town hall or your health visitor for more information.

I would think a child in a lap and diagonal seatbelt is going to be safer than one in a lapbelt.
  • I don't know if this has been posted already but I bought Graco Rally Sport car seats from Kiddicare.com for £44.99 each, free delivery and its even cheaper through Quidco. Delivery took a couple of days which is tremendously quick for where I live.

Loads of people think they can get away with booster cushions - worth noting that under 6s have to have a proper seat with a back. Which means I have to go out and buy another one as I bought my 4 year old a booster seat (bottom only) to replace the car seat I gave to my 2 year old as his old one doesn't fit in my new car. Didn't realise it wouldn't be good enough, and my 4 year old will hate me when I make him go back into a "baby" seat as we persuaded him to give the other one to his younger brother as we were giving him a "big boy" seat!!!

On the site it does say 4 - 6 year olds on a booster seat or car seat. My 5 year old is on a booster seat and I beleive that is okay.

I can't see it having been posted already, but PLEASE don't buy second hand booster cushions, especially the expanded polystyrene type- these can be damaged internally through mis-use,or through being involved in an actual crash.

For a saving of a few pounds it simply isn't worth it.
Only use a second hand booster cushion or car seat if it was used for your older child from new, and you know its history.

I contacted the transport dept. and my local police safety officer,as my dd used to use a seatbelt diverter alone. After being informed we would indeed be fined if she was not using a booster cushion too she has now gone back to her old booster seat.

Also-from the info I trawled through- if you only have one child in the car, put it in the centre rear seat if it has a three point belt, the safets place to be in a side impact collision. Hopefully none of us will ever need it, but we never can tell.
